Akainu’s Translation in One Piece Chapter 1116 Sparks Debate Among Fans

The dialogue delivered by Akainu during Vegapunk’s speech about the Void Century in the recently published One Piece Chapter 1116 has caused a division among readers.

As the Egghead Arc approaches its conclusion, One Piece continues to unveil numerous surprising revelations. In Chapter 1116, Dr. Vegapunk discloses that the Roger Pirates had already discovered the truth some time ago, but chose not to disclose it to the world.

This discovery is then accompanied by a panel featuring Akainu at the Marine headquarters, where he is heard saying, “Are you truly planning to reveal everything, Vegapunk?”This enigmatic moment has led fans to speculate that Akainu possesses a deeper understanding of the Void Century and Laugh Tale than previously believed.

Despite the World Government’s firm decision to conceal all information about the Void Century, it is still shocking when it is eventually revealed. Akainu, being aware of the organization’s dark past, alters his involvement in the narrative.

Although a dedicated fan, who was paying close attention, has pointed out the subtle difference between Akainu’s original Japanese dialogue and its English translation. They claim that the Japanese version implies a more aggressive tone, which alters the overall meaning of the line. If translated differently, it could also read as “Will you spill all the beans, Vegapunk?”

The fleet admiral’s response to Vegapunk’s message suggests that he may have only a limited understanding of the Void Century, unlike Roger and his crew who uncovered the truth of the world. The admiral’s frustration stems from Vegapunk’s knowledge that he lacks.

Although there are different interpretations, it is debatable whether Akainu truly knows the full extent of the events in question. Considering the World Government’s secrecy surrounding that period in history, it is understandable that even Akainu may not have all the information. In fact, not all Celestial Dragons are privy to the truth either.

After the reveal, One Piece fans are currently interpreting the magma user’s words in various ways.

According to a user on X, it is possible that Akainu’s anger could be attributed to Vegapunk discussing the Ancient Weapons. It is common knowledge that the navy goes to great lengths to keep information about these weapons from the public, and Vegapunk’s remarks may have caused Akainu to react strongly. This is the interpretation of the situation from one perspective.

One person states that he believes the reason for his anger is due to not being informed about the situation and his desire to have full knowledge about it.

Another person adds, “In Akainu’s furious outburst, ‘You’ll tell them everything, Vegapunk,’ he may also be alluding to the next panel where Vegapunk is mentioned as the captain of the ‘King of the Pirates’ crew. This moment, similar to the revelation of ‘the One Piece exists,’ is witnessed by the entire world, just like during Roger’s execution at Scaffold and Whitebeard’s battle at Marineford.”

Despite the various interpretations of Akainu’s words, the true meaning of his dialogue will only be unveiled once One Piece returns from its hiatus. Chapter 1117 is scheduled to be released on June 16, 2024, next week.
