“Albums No Different from Goods, CDs are Rarely Played”, Said Top Singer on Current K-pop Scene

During a recent interview celebrating the launch of his 7th mini album, renowned singer K.Will candidly discussed the worries he faced during his six-year break from the music scene.

During my time as an active musician, I consistently released albums in the spring and autumn and held concerts in the winter. As my repertoire grew, I found it difficult to include all of my songs in my concert performances. This made me question the necessity of producing even more songs. In today’s music industry, it is increasingly difficult for albums to gain recognition or attention. This led me to contemplate whether releasing new albums was the best decision. As he stated, “I pondered whether releasing an album was the right thing to do.”

These concerns were rooted in the desire to achieve success. K.Will elaborated, “It’s only natural to consider numbers and rankings when releasing an album. I was fixated on these thoughts. As a singer, I reevaluated my purpose. Ultimately, I understood that my responsibility is to deliver new music to my devoted fans, perform it on stage, and create results.” This introspection ultimately led him to the decision to release the album.

K.Will, who has been closely monitoring the evolving album industry, admitted, “I believed this could potentially be my final physical album. The industry is evolving rapidly and I wanted to pour even more of myself into the songs as a result. I put in my best effort, carefully selecting producers and collaborating on ideas to make each song meaningful.”He added, “Having invested so much of myself, I am particularly eager to receive positive feedback rather than just achieving impressive sales figures.”

According to K.Will, he frequently receives inquiries about his decision to release an album rather than a single. He expresses feeling overwhelmed by the process of releasing a physical album, as they are now considered more of a commodity and CDs are rarely used for playback.

Moreover, in the event that the album fails to perform well, the pressure will intensify and it could potentially take another six or seven years before the release of the next one.

Despite this, K.Will ultimately chose to release an album, with the hope of gaining more recognition. However, his main goal remains to simply create a better autumn song for the season.
