Influencer Alix Earle has recently issued an apology for past tweets that have resurfaced online and are deemed “deeply offensive”. These tweets were made ten years ago.
At the age of 23, Alix Earle, known as a TikToker and host of the ‘Hot Mess’ podcast, faced criticism in August 2024 for her past use of racial slurs in online posts dating back over a decade.
At the age of 13, Earle received a number of inquiries on her ask.fm account and responded by repeatedly using a racial slur.
Despite remaining silent for several weeks, she eventually turned to her Instagram story on August 26 to convey her regret.
A few weeks ago, screenshots were brought to light from my previous ask.fm account where I had used a derogatory term in the summer of 2014,”she stated. “I take full responsibility for my actions and want to clarify that I was only 13 years old at the time and was unaware of the hurtful connotations associated with that word. However, I acknowledge that there is no justification for using such language in any circumstance or at any age. It does not align with my values or the way I communicate.”
“I want to express my heartfelt apologies for the hurtful impact of my words. I never intended to convey any form of prejudice and it pains me to know that my words have caused harm. My platform has always been a source of positivity, entertainment, and support for others, and that will remain my focus. I am truly sorry to those who were offended by my words.”
Earle also mentioned that the delay in responding to the posts gave room for netizens to spread rumors. She clarified that her partnerships with brands have not been terminated and dismissed the allegations of attempting to trademark her posts, which had been falsely claimed by some.
In addition to her apology, Alix Earle addressed the rumors that stemmed from her former posts.
Despite the online rumors, she felt it was important to address the truth and offer her sincere apology in her message’s conclusion.
Despite causing a great deal of controversy online, a large number of her 10M TikTok and Instagram followers stood by her side after the posts were discovered in early August. They argued that she was only 13 years old at the time they were made, defending her actions.
“Someone commented on IG saying, “Omg leave her alone this was years ago.”
“Another person chimed in, saying that people are just looking for reasons to cancel others. They argued that the person in question was young and did not fully understand what they were saying.”
Earle has frequently been the center of attention in discussions. In November 2023, she revealed her struggle with an eating disorder during high school, which resulted in an overwhelming display of support from her loyal fanbase.
