All 5 Jujutsu Kaisen Barrier Techniques, ranked weakest to strongest

Gege Akutami’s acclaimed series, Jujutsu Kaisen, is well-known for its intriguing barrier techniques that have consistently captivated fans. With a reputation for meticulous plot planning and intricate details, Akutami has incorporated numerous unique and fascinating elements into the story, with the barrier techniques standing out as particularly noteworthy.

Thus far, the series has introduced five barrier techniques, starting with Curtains/Veils at the beginning and leading up to Bon Barriers, the most dominant technique in all of Jujutsu Kaisen’s barrier techniques and the foundation of the Culling Games. The following is a list of all five barrier techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen, ranked from least to most powerful.

Jujutsu Kaisen Barrier Techniques: Ranking All Five, from Weakest to Strongest

Curtains and Veils

Veils, also commonly referred to as Curtains, are the initial Barrier Technique showcased in the Jujutsu Kaisen series. This technique, widely utilized, forms a protective dome that masks anything within from external visibility. By transforming the sky within the barrier to night, it entices cursed spirits to reveal themselves.

As jujutsu sorcerers work to exorcise curses, Curtains proves to be a valuable tool in maintaining secrecy from the outside world. Its versatility allows for customization with Binding Vows and commissioning onto others through the use of talismans, as demonstrated during the Shibuya Incident Arc.

Despite their presence as a barrier, curtains are often seen as the most vulnerable type due to their fragile outer shell, which can be easily shattered with sufficient force or by fulfilling certain requirements, such as destroying the talismans.

Domain Barriers

In Jujutsu Kaisen, Barriers are essential for all Domains, such as Domain Expansions, Domain Amplifications, and Simple Domains. The majority of Domain Expansions have a reinforced, spherical outer layer, but there are some exceptions, like Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine, which features an open barrier.

The creation of barriers results in a fabricated environment that overlays the natural space, a difficult skill even for experienced sorcerers. As a result, the mastery of barrier techniques is crucial not only for casting potent domains but also for rendering them resistant to destruction.

3) Empty Barriers

Empty Barriers are aptly named as they are primarily unoccupied within their perimeters. They are constructed with hexagonal panels along their edges, allowing a skilled barrier technique user to control them at their discretion. An example of this is seen with Tengen, who utilized multiple Empty Barriers above the Tombs of the Star Corridor, possessing the ability to open or remove them as required.

In Chapter 202 of Jujutsu Kaisen, Kenjaku used his powers to transform a space into a movie theater in order to share his plan with Choso during their confrontation with Tengen and Yuki Tsukumo. The creation and manipulation of these barriers requires great skill and control, making them difficult to enter, exit, or alter.

Pure Barriers

Tengen’s Pure Barriers, known for their wide-reaching protection and fundamental significance in jujutsu sorcery, are highly regarded over standard barriers. As a result, Tengen is responsible for maintaining multiple Pure Barriers throughout Japan, which serve to amplify the barrier techniques of Jujutsu High leaders and effectively subdue cursed spirits.

The Imperial Palace, the Tomb of the Star, the Yamakuni Mausoleum in Kyoto, and the Holy Mountain of Hida are the four crucial Pure Barriers in Japan. These barriers divide the country into east and west, and without them, sorcerers would face significant challenges in managing cursed energy and spirits. They would have to rely on trial and error, with an uncertain future ahead.

This makes it the most powerful Barrier Technique, fulfilling an essential role in the jujutsu realm.

1) Bon Barriers

Despite its reputation as the strongest barrier technique, Pure Barriers are surpassed in power by Bon Barriers. These barriers serve as the foundation for the Culling Game, utilizing Tengen’s Pure Barriers as their base. Each colony in the Culling Game is constructed upon these formidable Bon Barriers.

Despite having the option to release the barriers and end the Culling Game, Tengen would have had to sacrifice a thousand years of progress in the battle against curses.

  • Gojo may have truly cursed Geto since their birth, and Jujutsu Kaisen always hinted at it
  • Every Jujutsu Kaisen death so far in the order they happened
  • My Hero Academia epilogue may have destroyed what made Horikoshi’s series so unique
