In the world of One Piece, Roronoa Zoro is recognized as the greatest swordsman among the Straw Hat pirates. His reputation as the Pirate Hunter was earned through his capture of numerous pirates in the East Blue. Zoro’s ultimate goal is to surpass Dracule Mihawk and become the strongest swordsman in the entire world.
Ever since his crushing loss to Mihawk in East Blue, Zoro has been determined to never taste defeat again. As a result, he has emerged victorious against formidable opponents such as Daz Bones of Baroque Works, Pica of the Donquixote Pirates, Basil Hawkins, and most recently, the King of the Beast Pirates.
The list below gives a summary of the katanas that Roronoa Zoro has possessed throughout the series.
From Yubashiri to Enma: A Comprehensive List of Roronoa Zoro’s Swords in One Piece
Two Unnamed Katanas
During his childhood, Zoro received these two katanas from Shimotsuki Kozaburo. He wielded them alongside Wado Ichimonji until they were broken in his initial battle against Dracule Mihawk, the most powerful swordsman in the world of One Piece.
5) Third Generation Kitetsu Sword
The Grade Meito sword known as Sandai Kitetsu is infamous for being believed to be cursed and causing misfortune to its wielder. It was created by the renowned Wano swordsmith Kozuki Sukiyaki and was presented to Zoro two years prior in Loguetown by the arms dealer Ipponmatsu.
Yubashiri
Yubashiri is a renowned sword among the 50 Skillful Grade Meito. It was originally passed down in the Ipponmatsu family, but eventually, it came into Zoro’s possession as a gift from Ipponmatsu, who was impressed by Zoro’s remarkable luck. During their time together in Enies Lobby, Zoro creatively utilized Yubashiri and Usopp as a combined weapon known as “Hana Arashi.”
Tragically, Shu caused the destruction of Yubashiri during the Buster Call on Enies Lobby by rusting it to the point of crumbling. Eventually, the sword was laid to rest at the gravesite of the Rumbar Pirates on Thriller Bark.
Wado Ichimonji
Wado Ichimonji is a part of the 21 Great Grade Meito, crafted by the renowned Wano swordsmith Shimotsuki Kozaburo. Zoro’s dear friend and Kozaburo’s granddaughter, Kuina, was its previous owner. Following Kuina’s unexpected passing, her father Koushirou entrusted the sword to Zoro 11 years ago.
Wado Ichimonji stood out as the sole one of Zoro’s swords to remain intact after his initial clash with Mihawk’s Supreme Grade sword, Yoru.
Shusui Sword
Shusui is a highly coveted sword, recognized as one of the 21 Great Grade Meito and possessing immense strength as a Black Blade. It was notably wielded by the renowned samurai Ryuma and has been cherished as a precious heirloom in Wano Country. However, it was taken by Gecko Moria, who also stole Ryuma’s body, and was later utilized by the revived corpse of Ryuma as a zombie.
Following his victory over Ryuma on Thriller Bark, Zoro was gifted with Shusui by the defeated swordsman. This new weapon replaced his beloved Yubashiri, but despite its status as a powerful Black Blade, Zoro struggled to unleash its full potential. Tragically, Shusui was stolen by Gyukimaru in Wano Country and returned to its rightful resting place at Ryuma’s grave. At Hiyori’s request, Zoro made the difficult decision to leave Shusui behind and accept Enma in its place.
Enma
Enma, one of the 21 Great Grade Meito in the One Piece series, was created by Shimotsuki Kozaburo and first used by the renowned samurai, Kozuki Oden. When Oden’s daughter, Kozuki Hiyori, inherited Enma, she entrusted it to Zoro with the condition that he return Shusui to Ryuma’s grave.
During the Raid on Onigashima in the Wano Country Arc, Enma was one of the two swords that left a scar on Kaidou of the Four Emperors. Its unique ability is to enhance the wielder’s Busoshoku Haki, as demonstrated when Zoro first used Enma and unintentionally sliced off a significant portion of a cliff.
