All American Season 7 Cast Changes: Fans’ Concerns About “Exodus” Confirmed

Fans have expressed that the show has been “ruining” itself for months, and following this week’s casting bombshell concerning All American Season 7, they may have a valid point.

For those who have been tracking the updates leading up to All American Season 7 (which is still quite a ways away), significant changes are on the horizon.

Original lead actor Taye Diggs departed during Season 5, and the subsequent lead, Daniel Ezra, exited before Season 7 began to take shape. Fans have labeled this set of changes a “disaster,” but the news has since worsened.

According to a recent report from TV Line, only three out of the original seven returning cast members have signed contracts for the new season. This means a staggering five key characters will be leaving the series, marking an “exodus” wipeout.

Michael Evans Behling (Jordan), Greta Onieogou (Layla), and Bre-Z (Coop) have received the green light, while Samantha Logan (Olivia), Cody Christian (Asher), Karimah Westbrook (Grace James), Monét Mazur (Laura Baker), and Chelsea Tavares (Patience) will not return as series regulars.

Nevertheless, The CW is attempting to reassure fans that it’s not all doom and gloom. Ezra is set to return as a director for Season 7, and “other fan-favorite original characters” have been hinted at for a mysterious comeback, although their identities remain unknown.

In the meantime, All American Season 7 is diverting attention to two new leads who will take over the story. The show’s logline indicates: “Taking it back to where it all began: Beverly Hills High and South Crenshaw High.

“It’s the same heart, same NFL dream, same crosstown rivalry, same messy hormones, ushered in by a new generation of L.A. teens, a new Beverly coach, and our OG Vortex fam, who are taken aback to find they’re now expected to be responsible adults.”

Though this may appear to be more of the same content, a considerable number of fans have already tuned out. Given the rapid and drastic changes, their discontent is understandable.

“So I saw that the original All American has no main cast members returning. Is there any chance these characters could make an appearance on that show? Or why not just cancel it and give this show a proper ending? It’s all so weird,” one commented on Reddit.

A second user concurred, stating, “Most likely not. It wouldn’t make sense. They’re just introducing new characters as regulars. All American revolved around Spencer’s story, and if he’s not the main focus anymore, what’s the point? All American: Homecoming could have had a proper conclusion instead since it’s only Simone’s junior year.”

A third fan shared, “I’ve decided I will not be watching Season 7,” and explained, “There are certain characters that are the heart of the show, and it just won’t feel right without them. Taye’s departure was significant, and now Daniel’s confirmed exit, along with others unofficially leaving. It won’t be the same.”

“I’m sorry, but nothing about the character lineup that remains entices me to continue watching. They weren’t picked as leads for a reason. But good luck to those who decide to watch next season; sorry in advance to the writers dealing with our new leads. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.”

If you’re open to giving All American Season 7 a chance, new episodes are set to premiere in 2025. In the meantime, you can stream Seasons 1-6 on Netflix.

Or, if you’re looking for some good American entertainment, prepare yourself for Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 and Captain America 4.
