In Fallout 4, there is a plethora of items to enjoy, from bobbleheads to bottlecaps. However, the most iconic aspect of the game is the Vaults. Here are the locations of all the Vaults in the game and what you can anticipate upon reaching them.
The Vaults in Fallout were initially created with the purpose of safeguarding select groups of people in the event of a nuclear war that was believed to be imminent. These structures, built by Vault-Tec, can be discovered throughout the map in Fallout 4 as well as in the other installments of the franchise.
While journeying through the Wasteland in Fallout 4, completing quests and meeting companions, stumbling upon Vaults is a thrilling aspect of the game. This is where you can locate them all.

Vault 111 Location in Fallout 4
Vault 111 can be located in the far North-West of the map, just a short distance from Sanctuary Hills. Serving as the main Vault in Fallout 4, this is where the player character and their family seek refuge when the nuclear bombs are unleashed.
The Vault has a crucial role in establishing the story, although it is not as malicious as other Vault-Tec inventions. Its tendency to deceive its inhabitants ultimately results in the loss of the player’s partner and the abduction of their child.
Despite narrowly escaping a nuclear strike that devastated the surrounding area, the player’s family is quickly outfitted with Vault suits and instructed to enter “decontamination pods”. These pods, unbeknownst to them, are cryogenic chambers meant to suspend the population until Vault-Tec determines that the outside world is safe and issues an all-clear signal (initially estimated to take 180 days).
Despite the signal never arriving, the security forces eventually mutinied against the scientists. The outcome of the event remains uncertain, but it is certain that casualties occurred during the skirmish.
The main item to keep an eye out for upon waking up in the Vault is the Cryolator weapon located in the Overseer’s office. While it may be locked behind a master lock, it is still obtainable early on in the game.
To obtain Dogmeat as a companion, make your way to the Red Rocket settlement and retrieve him. Return to the office and request his assistance in searching for useful items. Remarkably, he is able to retrieve the gun from the cabinet with ease.
Vault 81 Location in Fallout 4
Vault 81 can be found just south of the Oberland Station settlement, nestled in a small cliff face. Keep an eye out for the sizable cave-like entrance, as the Vault is situated just inside.
The last functioning shelter in Fallout 4 is a bit of an anomaly, and it is the only one that the player becomes aware of.
Vault-Tec designed Vault 81 as a site for conducting experiments on humans, with the specific goal of creating a cure for all possible illnesses that could affect the human race. However, in a rare act of compassion, things did not unfold as originally intended.
After learning its true intention, the initial Overseer, Dr. Olivette, made the decision to reveal the company’s intentions. Upon discovering that the government was fully aware and had authorized them, she opted to moderate its most extreme aspects instead.
Despite preventing her team from infecting the Vault’s inhabitants with various illnesses, she still managed to successfully develop the cure-all. Additionally, she took precautions to ensure the other three scientists could not achieve Vault-Tec’s objectives by sealing them in a secret part of the Vault equipped with abundant supplies.
In modern times, the Vault boasts a remarkable questline in which a Mole Rat bite results in one resident becoming infected. This ultimately leads to the player being faced with the choice between showing mercy or acting selfishly. All in all, it remains one of the most intriguing and narratively compelling locations to explore in the Commonwealth.
This location is home to the robot companion Curie, as well as a variety of collectibles and helpful items. In addition, the secret vault houses the Medicine bobblehead, making it a must-visit spot for collectors.
Vault 75 Location – Fallout 4
The entrance to Vault 75 is located beneath the partially destroyed Malden Middle School, situated southwest of the Greentop Nursery Settlement. Due to the majority of the school’s entrances being inaccessible, make your way to the collapsed section of the wall and turn left. You will find a basement door that leads directly to the entrance of the Vault.
Despite the existence of multiple Vaults in Fallout 4, Vault 75 stands out as the most unsettling. While it was marketed as a secure haven for local children and their families during the impending nuclear war, the truth was that it was purposely constructed underneath a school for the purpose of conducting experiments on the young subjects.
The entire families and the local school teachers made it safely to the Vault, but were immediately split up by security personnel. The children were brought to the Atrium, while the adults were not as lucky and were instead led to a room where they were executed.
After that, the Vault initiated years of scientific experiments aimed at perfecting the human genome. The children were instructed to view the outside world with fear and were informed that they would receive training to improve their situation once the Vault opened and permitted them to depart.
Regrettably, this turned out to be a deception and the scientists had no plans of letting anyone go. On their 18th birthday, the most capable and brightest children were “harvested”for their genetic codes, while the average ones were eliminated upon reaching adulthood.
Vault 95 Location in Fallout 4
Vault 95 is located just South of the Edge of the Glowing Sea map marker. To find it, follow the road down and you will come across a massive concrete bunker that houses the entrance to the Vault. Be aware that the area is heavily guarded by Gunners and Assaultrons, so make sure to come prepared for a battle.
Vault 95 was specifically created to accommodate individuals struggling with chem addictions. An effective recovery program was implemented and residents were required to adhere to it and maintain sobriety, which they largely succeeded in doing.
After five years had passed, Vault-Tec’s true intentions were finally uncovered. One of the company’s representatives, pretending to be a resident, waited for everyone else to go to bed before exposing a secret cache of drugs. This revelation caused some individuals to relapse into their former habits, while others attempted to prevent them from doing so, resulting in a chaotic and violent situation.
Many eventually recognized that this had been a deliberate decision, but, unfortunately, it was already too late. The experiment is especially tragic as the Vault-Tec employee acknowledges the program’s success and the large number of people who had adapted well to living underground.
The Big Guns bobblehead can be located atop the radio in the living quarters. Additionally, a Stealth Boy can be found in the storage room, behind the door with an Advanced lock.
Vault 114 Location in Fallout 4
Vault 114 is located directly beneath Park Street Station and can be reached by a short journey through the tunnels. The area is heavily guarded by Triggermen, similar to a mafia, who will attack without warning. However, they can be easily defeated, even at the beginning of the game.
Despite being advertised as a secure and lavish haven for the elite members of Boston society to reside with their loved ones, Vault 114 ultimately fell short of its promises as the majority of families were confined to cramped, one-room apartments.
In a strange turn of events, Vault-Tec started looking for an Overseer who possessed a strong aversion to authority to govern the once influential group. After some time, they decided on Soup Can Harry, a homeless individual.
All employees of the Vault were required to strictly adhere to Harry’s instructions, even if it made them uneasy or caused conflicts with the residents. The purpose was for Vault-Tec to observe how the once affluent and powerful individuals would respond to being instructed by someone of Harry’s stature.
Currently, Skinny Malone and his stylishly-dressed group of criminals armed with Tommy guns have seized control of the Vault. In the primary storyline, this is also the location where Nick Valentine is being held prisoner, eagerly awaiting the player’s rescue.
Vault 88 Location – Fallout 4 (Vault-Tec Workshop DLC)
Vault 88 can be found in the southeastern area of the flooded Hyde Park, which was introduced in the Vault-Tec Workshop DLC. The only way to enter is through a narrow passage within the well-guarded Quincy Quarries, defended by resilient raiders. Once they are eliminated, proceed inside and use your Pip-Boy to unlock the Vault.
As the first bombs began to rain down across the United States, Vault 88 was still in the process of being constructed. However, the Vault was quickly sealed in order to protect those seeking shelter inside. Although the Vault was not yet completed, its unfinished state provided enough protection from the initial blast. However, over time, radiation began to seep in.
Despite being Ghoulified, the Overseer was able to maintain her mental faculties by constantly focusing on Vault-Tec’s plans for the shelter. However, all other residents trapped inside eventually succumbed to becoming Feral Ghouls. The player, however, offers the Overseer a chance to pursue her goals and is never saved.
The initial purpose of Vault 88 was to serve as a testing ground for a range of innovative devices. Upon their successful development, these devices would be transferred to other Vaults. The Overseer is eager to attract fresh inhabitants and commence experiments on them, leaving the choice to the player on their level of support for this endeavor.
Vault 118 Location – Fallout 4 (Far Harbor DLC)
To gain entrance to Vault 118, players must head west from Far Harbor until arriving at the Cliff’s Edge Hotel. This location was added to Fallout 4 as part of the Far Harbor DLC.
After entering through the main entrance, go right and continue up until you reach the highest point of the hotel. Then, proceed to cross the entire width of the hotel and descend the stairs. Be prepared for tough Ghoul variants along the way, so make sure to have a powerful weapon ready.
Upon arriving at a corridor containing a Glowing One and multiple other Ghouls, make your way to the functional elevator and descend to the lowest levels. Continue walking straight and you will reach the entrance of Vault 118.
Similarly to Vault 88, Vault 118 was also incomplete and was marketed as a high-end option for living underground. The intention was to attract residents who held distinguished positions, enjoyed special privileges, and possessed great wealth.
Vault-Tec’s plan was to split the Vault into two sections, with one wing reserved for the desires of ten affluent individuals and the other wing housing 300 residents from lower-class neighborhoods in tight living spaces. The goal was to give the wealthy the power to dictate the rules and punishments for any violations, utilizing a fleet of programmed robots to enforce their decisions.
Despite being completed, the project was never able to come to fruition due to funding problems. Ultimately, only the first wing was constructed before production was halted. When the bombs finally fell, the Vault was sealed with only the Overseer remaining inside.
After being contracted by Pearl or Maxwell to investigate a recent murder, players are naturally led to this vault in the game while completing the Brain Dead quest.
The optimal build for surviving in Fallout 4 and the essential console commands for Fallout New Vegas are featured. Additionally, the top mods for Fallout 4 in 2024, available for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, are included, along with a compilation of Easter eggs from all the games in the Fallout series.
