Manor Lords offers various difficulty options, with each one functioning slightly differently from the others. Below is a breakdown of each scenario and its corresponding difficulty setting, outlining their mechanics within the game.
In Manor Lords, the difficulty and playstyle are closely connected and are divided into three distinct scenarios. Although they may be labeled as Easy, Normal, and Hard, each one offers distinct variations beyond just the AI’s level of challenge. These scenarios cater to different playstyles, allowing players to choose based on their preferences.
In one scenario, the main focus is on building and creativity, while another revolves around surviving in a hostile world. A third scenario strikes a balance, allowing players to experience all aspects of the game.
You should remember that there is also the option to make a personalized game that incorporates elements from all three scenarios. Plus, you have the flexibility to adjust the difficulty level separately by choosing from Relaxing, Default, or Challenging and then customizing the settings to your preference.
Combat is optional in Manor Lords, but adds an element of excitement.
Rise to Prosperity
Many may view Rise to Prosperity as the game’s simplified version, but it offers more than that. It serves as a primarily city-building experience, allowing players to construct their city at a comfortable pace without the added pressure of combat mechanics. While players will still need to consider survival elements, such as harsh winters, this scenario is ideal for those seeking a more laid-back approach and a chance to familiarize themselves with the game’s mechanics.
The successful conclusion of the scenario occurs when your settlement reaches the Growth status. In other words, winning requires achieving Large Town status by ensuring the happiness of your people, maintaining a high approval rating from Manor Lords, and effectively managing your town to attract more settlers.
Restoring the Peace
The Restoring the Peace scenario can be considered the standard level of difficulty, striking a good balance between construction and warfare. It encompasses all the mechanics taught in Rise to Prosperity, but also requires players to conquer rival lords and incorporate their territories into their own. Additionally, players must protect their land from the threat of bandits.
Despite the leisurely pace, your enemies will be determined to take over your land and overthrow your rule as the Manor Lord. Simply building and waiting will not suffice; you must outsmart your opponents and gather enough resources not only for your settlement, but also to emerge victorious in the conflicts with your neighboring rivals.
On the Edge
On the Edge is the toughest scenario in Manor Lords, functioning as a survival mode that demands precise resource management. In this mode, the enemy AI is significantly enhanced, resulting in rival lords becoming more hostile and cunning in their strategies. The chances of bandit raids will also rise, and maintaining the happiness of your people will prove to be a daunting task.
While playing in this mode, your main objective is to protect your settlement from wolves while you work to make it strong and powerful. Once your base is secure, you can focus on attacking your enemies. The ultimate goal is Conquest, where you must eliminate all your rivals and gain control of the land on the map before a harsh winter arrives. The On the Edge scenario combines elements from the previous two modes but with a higher level of difficulty.
