Jude Law enters the Star Wars world in Skeleton Crew

In 2024, fans can anticipate the arrival of Skeleton Crew, a new Star Wars series featuring a talented cast of young actors, including Jude Law, known for his role as Dumbledore.

The show takes place nine years after the battle of Yavin, just five years after the events of Return of the Jedi. It also coincides with the start of Season 1 of The Mandalorian.

John Watts, the creator, mentioned in an interview that this project has been in the works for a significant amount of time. It follows the adventure of 10-year-old children from a small planet who become stranded in the vast Star Wars universe and their quest to return home.

Andor will be back for a second and final season.

With its popularity amongst Star Wars fans, it’s not shocking that the show will be returning for a second season after the massive success of Season 1. However, it has been officially announced that Andor will conclude after Season 2, with the final episodes directly tying into the events of Star Wars: Rogue One.

The second season of Andor will consist of 12 episodes and cover a time frame of four years, beginning one year after the events of the initial season.

Despite initially being scheduled for an August 2024 premiere, the production of Season 2 was put on hold due to the WGA strike in 2023, causing significant delays. There has been no recent update on the release date, but Andor Season 2 was not included in Disney’s 2024 lineup, hinting at a possible release in 2025.

This new piece of artwork accompanied the announcement of The Mandalorian & Grogu movie.

Despite initial speculation that The Mandalorian Season 4 would mark the end of this journey, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have revealed a larger plan in motion.

On January 9, 2024, it was announced that The Mandalorian and Grogu would be entering production for a feature-length film in 2024. This highly anticipated movie will serve as the culmination of the story told in the Star Wars series and will be directed by Filoni, often referred to as the “Star Wars’ Infinity War.”

Disney has secured May 22 as the expected release date for 2026.

Daisy Ridley will return to her role.

Along with the upcoming Mando movie, the details surrounding this film’s storyline are well-known. Set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars New Jedi Order will follow the journey of Rey Skywalker as she forges a new direction. Viewers will witness Rey’s efforts to reconstruct the Jedi Order from its foundation.

The project is currently in the process of being written, and fortunately, it is further along in development compared to many other titles. The director of the film will be the acclaimed Oscar-winning filmmaker and journalist, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Considering how burdened Rey was throughout the Skywalker saga, we firmly believe that she deserves a solo adventure. Although there is no confirmed release date, it would make logical sense for it to be the next theatrical installment after The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Donald Glover played a young Lando in the Han Solo film

Even though it was announced in 2020 and was initially planned as a spinoff, there is still very little information available about the upcoming Lando project. The project is set to feature Donald Glover as a young Lando, as he appeared in Han Solo.

Nevertheless, in the middle of 2023, we discovered that the project had transformed from a simple Disney+ series into a complete feature film… supposedly.

The precise plot and release date have not been revealed yet, suggesting that it is one of the projects currently struggling in development.

Taika Waititi’s Upcoming Star Wars Film

Similar to numerous other projects featured on this list, there is a lack of concrete information regarding Taika Waititi’s Star Wars film. However, it has been confirmed that the project is moving forward and that Waititi is expected to play a role in the movie.

It is not surprising that the director usually makes an appearance in most of his projects. However, it is intriguing to speculate about the type of character he will portray.

Waititi’s unwavering passion for the universe has been evident, and both he and Disney have refuted any speculation that the film has been put on hold.

To this day, The Last Jedi is a hotly debated topic in the Star Wars fan base

Despite his busy schedule, Director Rian Johnson remains determined to create a Star Wars spin-off Trilogy. In a recent interview with Variety, he provided an update on the progress and reaffirmed his commitment to the project.

During his appearance on the outlet’s Awards Circuit Podcast, Johnson clarified that he remains in constant communication with Disney, even though he is not currently involved in any Star Wars projects.

“Kathleen Kennedy and I have discussed it, and we are currently still in discussions. My experience working on ‘The Last Jedi’ was incredible, but it all depends on scheduling.”

Despite the divisive reception of Johnson’s The Last Jedi, there are still fans (including us) who are eagerly anticipating the director’s vision for a full trilogy.

Untitled James Mangold film — TBA

As revealed at the 2023 Star Wars Celebration event, it was also announced that James Mangold will both write and direct his own Star Wars film. The tentative title appears to be Dawn of the Jedi, though there has been no confirmation from official sources.

The upcoming project will explore uncharted territory for the franchise, taking place approximately 25,000 years prior to the events of A New Hope.

According to Lucasfilm, the movie is being referred to as a “biblical epic”and will uncover the origins of the Jedi religion and the discovery of the first force sensitives during the “dawn of the Jedi”era.

During our wait, discover the total number of Star Wars movies, the meaning of BBY in the franchise, and the timeline of Andor.
