All You Need to Know About Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake- Official News

In the last 16 years, Ubisoft has launched 13 main installments of Assassin’s Creed. Throughout this period, there were numerous highs and lows. However, these games have undoubtedly solidified the franchise’s standing as some of the top open-world RPGs with compelling storylines.

According to rumors circulating last year, Ubisoft was reportedly developing a project called Obsidian. Additionally, it was speculated that a team of developers from the AC game Skull and Bones were collaborating on the project.

Is Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Being Remade?

In an interview with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot in June 2024, it was confirmed that the company is remaking the game Black Flag under the working title ‘Obsidian’. The project had started in September 2023 and Guillemot expressed his trust in the creative decisions being made.

Last year, there was a lot of buzz on Reddit as digital sleuths eagerly gathered information about an ongoing project called ‘Obsidian’. It is speculated that this project could potentially be a remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag in celebration of its 10-year anniversary.

After conducting research, it has been discovered that the majority of developers from Skull and Bones (Ubisoft Singapore) have updated their LinkedIn profiles to reflect their involvement in a currently undisclosed Ubisoft project.

After the shipwreck of Skull and Bones, I am convinced that there is a necessity to salvage and potentially repurpose the assets in order to improve upon them.

2. Current Projects at Ubisoft

Based on credible information, the following are the current projects underway at Ubisoft –

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows or Red (set in Japan, the first of the Infinity platform)
  • Codename Invictus (a multiplayer game)
  • Codename Hexe (described as the “darkest Assassin’s Creed game ever”)
  • Codename Obsidian (Black Flag remake)
  • Codename Nebula (set in India, Aztec Empire, and the Mediterranean)
  • Codename Infinity (a multi-verse type connected story setting)
  • Codename Raid (free-to-play four-player PvE co-op)
  • Codename Echoes (another multiplayer game)
  • Codename Jade (set in 215 BC China- focus on controls and build your own assassin from scratch option)
  • Another game is being remade (unknown as of now)

The highly anticipated release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is scheduled for 15 November 2024 on Xbox Series X/S and PS5. The status of the second remake remains unknown at this time. Fans are hopeful that it will be one of the first games available, as it currently cannot be played on the new PlayStations, unlike other titles.

Until Ubisoft makes an official announcement, the details about this project will remain unknown. However, based on the information we have, it appears that Ubisoft is currently working on a reworked version of Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag. More information will be revealed in 2024.

Although there are many new titles in the works, it is reported that the Black Flag remake and a second, more clandestine work will be released by the end of the decade.

Despite Ubisoft’s lack of public information about Infinity, the CEO has claimed that Hexe will revolutionize the game and appeal to both new and old players.

According to reports, Invictus is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2025, followed by Hexe in 2026. We will have to wait for official announcements to confirm the details.

The sixth installment of the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, is a sophisticated continuation of Assassin’s Creed III. It follows the story of Captain Edward Kenway, the grandfather of Ratonhnhaké:ton, and an ancestor of Desmond Miles. The game takes place during the Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean Sea, with the majority of the narrative unfolding in Havana, Nassau, and Kingston.

Ubisoft is responsible for developing and publishing the game. Additionally, it is an important installment in the franchise, establishing the standard for exceptional graphics that would be maintained in future Assassin’s Creed games.
