Allegations Against BTS Spark Controversy on Social Media

The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (MCST) has launched an inquiry into allegations of BTS, the world-renowned K-pop group, hoarding music. KOCCA, which falls under the jurisdiction of the ministry, has verified the investigation, sparking a heated discussion among both fans and internet users.

On May 21, KOCCA declared that it would take charge of the inquiry into the accusations against BTS for music hoarding. The inquiry was initiated after a formal complaint was lodged with the MCST and subsequently handed over to KOCCA for further handling. A representative from KOCCA stated, “We intend to gather information by seeking a response from HYBE (Big Hit Music).”

The procedure may require gathering information from music streaming platforms and relaying results to the MCST. In the event of need, KOCCA may solicit assistance from courts or other investigative bodies. Any civil grievances pertaining to BTS will also be addressed through this process.

Despite facing accusations, HYBE, the agency representing BTS, has firmly denied the claims and suggested the possibility of taking legal measures. A representative for HYBE stated, “We categorically dismiss any allegations of music hoarding involving BTS.”

Online comments are evidence of a common belief that the investigation will not produce significant outcomes.

  • “Is the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism a court? What can it do?”
  • “None of the numerous hoarding suspicions have been adjudicated before. It seems like they are the first hoarding marketing users to have a clear ruling.”
  • “It’s an old story, and in the meantime, BTS has grown so much that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism won’t touch it.”
  • One netizen summarized the general sentiment, “Most of us know that the investigation into music hoarding is meaningless.”

As KOCCA continues its investigation, the potential impact of the findings on BTS and their management remains uncertain. With both fans and critics closely monitoring the situation, the outcome could establish a precedent for addressing similar allegations in the future.

Despite facing public skepticism, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism must address the complex allegations as BTS remains a dominant force in the global music scene.
