According to a listing by a South African retailer, AMD’s Ryzen ‘Strix Point’ APUs are currently being released in laptops.
It has been widely acknowledged that AMD has maintained a strong presence in the market for APU chips designed for portable devices like the Steam Deck. For quite some time, there have been speculations about the company’s intentions to expand the application of these chips to other devices. These speculations have now been confirmed by a South African retailer’s listing, which reveals that AMD’s Ryzen Strix Point APUs will soon be featured in Asus ROG gaming laptops.
It has been revealed that Asus plans to release a variety of laptops featuring AMD’s upcoming APUs, known as the Ryzen ‘Strix Point’ series. According to the leak, any new Asus laptop models with a W in the model number will be equipped with the Strix Point processor.
It appears that this information has been validated by a listing created by South African retailer Onlinetechsa.
The Asus ROG Zephyrus laptop mentioned in the listing is a top-of-the-line device that boasts a 16″ OLED display. The listing also mentions up to twelve Zen 5 cores, which would provide a total of 24 threads and 24 MB of L3 cache.
Additionally, the laptop boasts 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 1TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD, as well as an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU. Its current listed price is 69,100 South African Rand, which is equivalent to approximately $3700. However, this is subject to change and may not be the final price.
According to a leaked plan ahead of Computex, Asus is planning to refresh their product line for the Asus ROG Ally, which will not be the only upcoming device to utilize AMD’s APUs. This updated version, possibly the original rather than the rumored Ally 2, is expected to be powered by the Ryzen Z1 APU and may also address the SD card issues and feature a larger battery.
