An iconic RS3 boss is coming in Old School RuneScape’s next Slayer update

Jagex, the developer of Old School RuneScape, has suggested incorporating one of RS3’s most renowned encounters as a Slayer boss in an upcoming update.

Initially appearing in RuneScape in July 2014, Araxxor is a renowned boss with four distinct phases that tests players’ mastery of various mechanics. Its popularity has only grown over time, leading to its inclusion in Old School RuneScape as well.

Araxxor was officially announced on June 17 through a developer blog, which also included a reveal trailer featuring the new threat. The blog clarified that Araxxor is not a direct copy of the boss from RuneScape, but rather a unique Slayer boss with a 92 Slayer requirement and a fresh, Old School twist.

Although the blog does not reveal many boss mechanics, Jagex states that Araxxor is a melee-oriented encounter and is not as difficult as the Awakened Desert Treasure II bosses or the Fortis Colosseum. This implies that it will be a demanding Slayer encounter, but not a boss for end-game players.

Fascinatingly, players who engage in OSRS will be able to decide whether to release Araxxor’s minions for a quicker and more demanding battle, or handle them at the beginning for a more gradual and simpler fight. This feature aims to make the Slayer boss more reachable, while also providing experienced players the opportunity to efficiently farm Araxxor.

Regarding loot, the suggested rewards listed below will be obtainable upon defeating Araxxor:

  • The Noxious Halberd is a newly created weapon that has a DPS equivalent to the Blade of Saeldor. It also comes with a unique special attack that has the ability to instantly cure any poison or venom inflicted on the wielder.
  • The Amulet of Rancor is a recently released amulet that provides the highest bonuses in the game for Stab, Slash, and Crush attacks. It also boasts a significant increase of 12 in Melee Strength.
  • The Aranea Boots are a specialized set of tribrid boots that provide intermittent protection from spider webs.
  • The Araxyte Venom Gland is a recently introduced consumable that inflicts 4 Venom Damage and grants 20 seconds of protection against venom. These glands are also an essential ingredient in the creation of Extended Anti-venom+ Potions.
  • The Arraxxor Teleport Scroll is a one-time use item that transports you directly to Araxxor’s lair.
  • The Araxyte Head is a reskin of the Slayer Helmet that is not tradable and features a design inspired by Araxxor.
  • The Jar of Venom is an exceptionally scarce flex item that cannot be traded and can only be displayed in the Achievement Gallery.
  • Araxxor Pet: An uncommon drop that can be obtained from the encounter.

Remember that the information presented in the blog is subject to change. Arraxor’s loot and mechanics may be altered before its release in Old School RuneScape. If you would like to provide feedback on the upcoming boss, there is a brief survey included in the blog for players to share their thoughts. Additionally, there will be an in-game poll for the rewards in the near future.
