An Unrevealed Jujutsu Kaisen Entity May Be Punishing Sukuna with Gojo’s Return

Despite never addressing the existence of an entity that oversees Binding Vows, the final panel of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 260 strongly hints at the potential return of Satoru Gojo. A recent theory proposes that Ryomen Sukuna may be responsible for this, as it is believed that he broke a Binding Vow due to his frequent battles with sorcerers and inability to keep track of societal norms.

Chapter 255 of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga revealed that Sukuna was unable to perform a Binding Vow in order to execute a slash and kill Gojo. This was due to the fact that Sukuna had lost an arm and was unable to perform his usual hand signs. The manga does not mention Sukuna’s sacrifice in the Binding Vow, leading to speculation that he may have broken the deal. This could potentially explain why the effects of Gojo’s death were ultimately reversed.

Despite being fatally wounded by one of Sukuna’s slashes in their battle, Gojo’s death was reversed in chapter 255 of the manga. This was due to Sukuna’s Binding Vow, which he had to make in order to use the attack because he had lost an arm and was unable to perform his usual hand signs. However, the specifics of what Sukuna gave in exchange for the Binding Vow have never been mentioned in the series, leading to a theory that he has broken the deal and Gojo’s death has been reversed as a result.

Despite the lack of explanation in the manga about the nature of Binding Vows or the existence of a monitoring entity, it has been established in the story that breaking the deal will result in the loss of what was gained. In this instance, Sukuna intended to use his world-cutting Slash to kill Gojo, but by breaking the deal, Gojo may have reverted back to a state before being hit by the attack.

The reason for this theory is that author Gege Akutami never revealed what Sukuna gave away in his Binding Vow. Throughout the battle, the King of Curses has been utilizing these unknown items, leading to the possibility that he may have lost track of them while fighting multiple sorcerers and being pushed into a corner. This could also provide context for Gojo’s unexpected return without seeming out of place in the story.

While many Jujutsu Kaisen fans may be delighted by Gojo’s comeback, the timing of this event appears rather odd. Typically, such returns occur when the rest of the main characters are in dire straits and unable to defeat the enemy. However, Gojo’s return coincides with Sukuna’s current struggles.

Despite Sukuna having been relentlessly battling sorcerers for more than twenty chapters, the most recent one saw him being backed into a corner by Yuji Itadori and Aoi Todo. Therefore, Gojo’s return may not seem necessary at first glance, as it could potentially diminish the tension. However, it is possible that Akutami has a surprise twist in store for the audience.

Concluding Remarks

It is possible that Sukuna did not uphold the Binding Vow he made to sever Satoru Gojo in half, providing an explanation for the latter’s reappearance in chapter 260 of Jujutsu Kaisen. This would align with the established canon of the series and offer insight into the mechanics of this concept within the story.
