Ancient Robot’s Name Reveal in Latest One Piece Spoilers Suggests a Deeper Role and Meaning to His Character

As the Egghead arc of author and illustrator Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga series came to a close, fans were treated to the latest alleged spoilers revealing several thrilling events. One of the highlights included Bonney utilizing her Gear 5 powers to attack one of the Gorosei, while another exciting moment involved the return of the Ancient Robot, bringing with it the resumption of Dr. Vegapunk’s broadcast.

The reappearance of the Ancient Robot, known as the Iron Giant, also led to the revelation of its name, Emeth, as shared in the latest One Piece manga spoilers from Tuesday, June 25, 2024. While the name Emeth may hold no significance in Oda’s world as of now, fans have noticed intriguing links to other works of literature.

Similarly, the previously mentioned ties beyond One Piece could potentially provide a greater significance to his persona and uncover his purpose in the Final Saga. While this remains conjecture at the time of this writing, the connections that Oda appears to be establishing strongly suggest both his role and the underlying significance of his character.

Name of One Piece’s Ancient Robot could reference a C.S. Lewis character and biblical word

The initial and most prominent link between One Piece’s Emeth, also referred to as the Ancient Robot/Iron Giant, is with the character of the same name in C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia series. Emeth makes an appearance in the book The Last Battle, and his deliverance is believed to be a tacit approval of the doctrinal concept of Inclusivism, as stated in a 2008 evaluation of Inclusivism in the works of C.S. Lewis by Elissa McCormack.

Within the plot of the book, Emeth is ultimately saved by the deity Aslan, despite his previous involvement in a conspiracy that manipulated the Narnians with a fake Aslan. This event can be interpreted as a statement on Inclusivism in Christian theology, suggesting that God should extend salvation to those who do not adhere to Christian beliefs, even if they have previously acted against or rejected Him.

Within the One Piece universe, it is possible that Joy Boy holds a similar role to the Ancient Robot Emeth as Aslan does to C.S. Lewis’ character Emeth. This implies that Emeth may have been an adversary of Joy Boy’s in the past, but was ultimately forgiven by him despite his actions. Such a dynamic would align with the theme of “inclusivism”and offer an explanation for Emeth’s repeated apologies to Joy Boy throughout the arc.

This could also provide insight into Joy Boy’s dialogue in the recent spoilers, where he instructs the Ancient Robot, “Emeth, when the time comes, you must…”before abruptly stopping. While it is uncertain what Joy Boy specifically asked of Emeth, it is possible that he requested for Emeth to fulfill a task that would lead to his redemption through Joy Boy. Essentially, if Emeth is able to fulfill Joy Boy’s request, he may be able to be pardoned for his wrongdoings.

In addition, there is another, less direct connection to Christian theology through the name Emeth. In the Bible, the term “emet”is used to refer to God, and it is said to mean “faithfulness”or “truth.”This term is specifically used to describe God as the origin of all “emet,”or truth and faithfulness, as mentioned in Exodus 34:6. While it is improbable that Oda is implying that Emeth is God, it is possible that he is using the word emet’s meaning of truth or faithfulness as inspiration.

As a result, this implies that Emeth is indeed a trustworthy ally for Luffy and his crew, just as Joy Boy once believed. Furthermore, it demonstrates Emeth’s unwavering loyalty to Joy Boy. This also clarifies his current mission to fulfill Joy Boy’s request and his desire to find and apologize to him. While this is merely speculation at the time of writing, it is hoped that the Egghead arc will shed more light on Emeth and solidify these interpretations of his name.
