Andrew Garfield is stepping into the romance genre with his upcoming film We Live in Time, but recent rumors about his return to the Spider-Man franchise have sparked discussions.
Since Garfield appeared in the Spider-Man suit once more in Spider-Man: No Way Home, speculation has grown about his potential return in future films, particularly Spider-Man 4. However, Garfield has denied these rumors.
“I mean, like the internet is a big place,” Garfield told IndieWire. “I think there’s a lot of people who will just say anything to get clicks. So you might have been duped, I’m afraid.”
This definitive response might convince some, but many superhero movie fans are skeptical, especially given Garfield’s past with secret cameos.
Rumors that Garfield and Tobey Maguire would return for No Way Home circulated long before the film’s release, prompting significant efforts to keep the reveal a secret.
In fact, Garfield went so far as to deny his involvement, even in the face of photographic evidence, claiming the images were photoshopped. Given how that turned out, fans are hesitant to accept his word this time.
“No-one believes a word out of your mouth anymore sir,” remarked one user on X.
“Yeah, he’s definitely in the movie,” another commented, with a third user saying, “Now Mr. Andrew…we know your techniques.”
“We know your tricks; you coming back, ain’t you,” added another commenter.
From a storyline perspective, it seems unlikely that Garfield would reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. The conclusion of No Way Home saw both his and Maguire’s characters returning to their respective universes, while Holland’s Spider-Man sets off on his own in New York after his loved ones have their memories erased.
Nonetheless, in the Marvel universe, unexpected cameos are always a possibility!
