Andrew Schulz Criticized for “Hateful” Reaction to ShxtsnGigs Apology Video

Comedian Andrew Schulz is encountering significant backlash due to his remarks regarding the controversy involving podcast duo ShxtsnGigs, who faced criticism after laughing at his jokes directed at Black women.

ShxtsnGigs consists of British influencers James Duncan and Fuhad Dawodu, known for their comedic podcast that has amassed nearly two million subscribers on YouTube. Despite their success, they are currently facing a wave of backlash from viewers.

During a summer 2024 episode of Andrew Schulz’s ‘Flagrant‘ podcast, Schulz made several controversial jokes about Black women. While Duncan and Dawodu appeared somewhat uneasy with the comments, they laughed along, a reaction that has since provoked intense criticism.

On September 16, 2024, ShxtsnGigs addressed this issue in another podcast, labeling Schulz’s jokes as “incredibly inappropriate.” They described their initial reaction as a “fight or flight” response, with Duncan stating, “When you’re in there, you’re in shock,” while Dawodu added, “All you wanna do is move on.” Watch here.

However, their apology did not appease critics, leading to a continued social media outcry against the duo. Two days later, Schulz shared his perspective during another podcast episode. He appeared to downplay the seriousness of the issue and suggested that the duo wished to remove other content from the episode but left the controversial jokes intact.

“I do have empathy for what they’re going through,” Schulz remarked, suggesting that as new players in the content arena, their concerns about potential cancellation influenced their response. He stated, “The nature of being funny involves something inappropriate happening. The individuals who are upset often do not listen to the podcast and are resentful of their success.” (Discussion begins at 1:00:16) Watch here.

Schulz’s comments have led to substantial backlash across social media, where users are criticizing both him and ShxtsnGigs. One user criticized Schulz for masking derogatory comments in the guise of comedy, stating, “Andrew Schulz tries to hide his hateful, stereotypical comments under the guise of ‘brilliant’ comedy…” Read more here.

Another post condemned Duncan and Dawodu for their “nonsense” apology, arguing that they should have spoken out against Schulz’s racial comments while also labeling Schulz as “a weird-ass hating mf.” Find the tweet here.

One comment reinforced the need for accountability, stating, “As much as those guys should’ve said something on the show, we, as a community, absolutely should be canceling @andrewschulz…” View the discussion here.

On the other hand, Schulz’s supporters are defending him, with one user commenting on YouTube, “ShxtsnGigs laughed naturally at that joke; they actually found it funny but were pressured into apologizing after the backlash.”

Another supporter expressed appreciation for Schulz’s stance, saying, “Love the doubling down, been rocking with Schulz & the boys since Westerbros… glad he stood on everything, don’t change for nobody.”

The controversy surrounding ShxtsnGigs intensified following a recent appearance on the Pour Minds show, during which they made comments about women’s appearances in Atlanta, Georgia, stating, “In Atlanta, I’ve seen the least baddies so far… Atlanta is clapped.” This led to further outrage and has fueled the criticism of their previous statements regarding Black women on Schulz’s podcast.

As of now, neither Schulz nor the ShxtsnGigs duo has provided additional commentary on the ongoing backlash, which continues to escalate across social media platforms. Source.
