Angry Miao has incorporated elements of neon-soaked 90s nostalgia and retro console design to develop the aesthetic for its new mechanical keyboard.
The 90s Nintendo consoles were known for their distinct style, featuring textured grey plastic with vibrant pops of color that remain a nostalgic memory for many.
In a nod to 90s nostalgia, Angry Miao has gone above and beyond with its newest RGB 65 keyboard. Not only does the design pay tribute to the classic Game Boy, but it also features the vibrant neon colors that were popular during that decade.
The AM RGB 65 is available in various color options such as white, ‘cyber grey’, and ‘violet fury’. Despite being named a 65% keyboard, its size is slightly larger due to the inclusion of a large 200-LED dot matrix panel on the top.
The lower right corner of the keyboard has a curved design and features three cutouts that resemble the famous speaker grill found on the original Game Boy. The bottom of the keyboard showcases molded images of the traditional A and B buttons, while the USB-C port is shaped to resemble a Nintendo D-Pad.
The White version of the keyboard maintains a retro aesthetic, with mostly white keycaps accented by dark grey on the backspace, enter, and spacebar. The WASD keys also pay tribute to the Japanese and European SNES controllers with their Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red colors.
Angry Miao has initiated a fundraising effort on Kickstarter for the RGB 65, showcasing its capabilities through promotional images on the crowdfunding platform. These images feature the LED dot matrix display, which can display charming pixel art of beloved characters such as Pikachu and Gengar.
The Kickstarter offers a range of reward tiers starting at $449 for a basic DIY kit and going up to $598 for a fully assembled version in a multicolor anodized violet finish.
