On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, coinciding with World Gorilla Day, Kadokawa officially announced the production of the Gorilla no Kami anime. The series is slated to premiere in 2025, although specific details regarding the cast, staff, or production company have yet to be disclosed.
The complete title, Gorilla no Kami Kara Kago Sareta Reijo , was an adaptation of Mika Kamisu’s manga from Shirohi’s popular Japanese web novel series.
Shirohi-san initiated the web novel on the Shosetsuka ni Naro platform in August 2020. Following this, Kadokawa Shoten launched a manga adaptation featuring Mika Kamisu’s artwork on ComicWalker, starting in August 2021. As of now, five tankobon volumes have been published.
Gorilla no Kami anime set for 2025 release
The anime adaptation of Gorilla no Kami was confirmed by Kadokawa on September 24, 2024, which is also World Gorilla Day. This anime is based on Mika Kamisu’s manga adaptation of Shirohi-san’s fantasy web series and is expected to launch in 2025, although an exact release date remains unconfirmed.
The official production team has created a new website and an X (formerly Twitter) account to provide updates about the anime. In addition to the announcement, special congratulatory messages from the original author Shirohi and manga illustrator Mika Kamisu have been shared.
Shirohi-san expressed initial doubts about the feasibility of adapting the story into a book, but they are thrilled that their work is being transformed into a manga and now into an anime. Shirohi also praised Mika Kamisu’s illustrations, thanking all fans for their support and expressing hopes that viewers will appreciate the charm of the “strong and kind”gorillas depicted in the series.
Correspondingly, Mika Kamisu shared their excitement about the anime adaptation, expressing eagerness to see the animated adventures of Sophia and her companions, who have been brought to life by the talented anime staff and voice cast. To mark this occasion, Mika Kamisu released a special commemorative illustration.
