According to Eddie Hearn, the combined purse for Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury would exceed $200 million if they were to face each other in the ring.
It is possible that Joshua’s upcoming match may be against Fury, assuming that the Gypsy King emerges victorious against Oleksandr Usyk on May 18th. Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, has recently revealed the potential earnings for both fighters in what he believes would be “the largest fight in history”.
“To be clear, the cost for each fighter would be well over £100million ($126.15m),”he stated in an interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored. “It would undoubtedly be the most lucrative fight in history and we would profit from a percentage of Anthony Joshua’s earnings.”
“The length of a fighter’s contract is determined by their increasing power and popularity. As they become more successful, the duration of their contract also grows, solidifying your relationship with them.”
It should be noted that Anthony Joshua entered into an unprecedented lifelong contract with us three years ago. He has proven to be a remarkably committed fighter and has even become involved in the business aspect, marking the first time we have ever had a client take on such a role.
Despite the astronomical figures being mentioned, this fight will not be the most financially successful in the sport’s history.
According to estimates, Floyd Mayweather Jr earned £230m ($290m) and Conor McGregor earned £80m ($100.9m) from their highly anticipated fight in 2017. Additionally, Mayweather reportedly earned £200m ($252.3m) from his match against Manny Pacquiao, who himself took home £100m ($126.13m).
Hearn’s main focus is on Fury defeating Usyk next month, as it would pave the way for Joshua and Fury to finally face off in the ring. This highly anticipated fight has been eagerly awaited for quite some time.
Fury was urged by Joshua’s promoter to defeat his opponent after AJ defeated Francis Ngannou by knockout in the second round of their recent fight in Saudi Arabia.
