Netflix has just announced its newest series titled “The WONDERfools,” which boasts an impressive ensemble cast led by Park Eun-bin and Cha Eun-woo. The lineup is further strengthened by distinguished actors Kim Hae-sook, Choi Dae-hoon, Lim Seong-jae, and Son Hyun-joo, promising a captivating viewing experience.
Set against the backdrop of 1999, during a period rife with apocalyptic fears, “The WONDERfools” tells the story of a group of unlikely champions who, after a bizarre accident, acquire superpowers and confront antagonists menacing the tranquility of Haeseong City. This series uniquely marries the realms of superhero comedy and action-adventure, a combination that is seldom seen in Netflix’s Korean offerings.
In her role as Chae-ni, Park Eun-bin plays an endearing character who is caught by surprise when she acquires superpowers due to an unexpected incident. Meanwhile, Cha Eun-woo portrays Lee Un-jeong, a socially awkward civil servant based in Seoul, who is principled in his job yet hides a mysterious side linked to a series of disappearances.
Veteran actress Kim Hae-sook takes on the character of Chae-ni’s grandmother, Kim Jeon-bok, who owns a restaurant and masks a glamorous yet shadowy past. The series adds an element of intrigue with Son Hyun-joo, who plays the ambitious and calculating Ha Won-do. Choi Dae-hoon is set to depict Son Kyung-hoon, a well-known troublemaker, while Lim Seong-jae embodies Kang Robin, the quirky local oddball of Haeseong.
The remarkable cast is supported by a talented production staff. The series is directed by Yoo In-shik, well-regarded for his work on “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” and “Dr. Romantic.”
Produced through a collaboration among Romantic Crew, Kakao Entertainment, and Fantagio, “The WONDERfools” is set to excite audiences with its unique premise and dynamic characters.
