In Season 21, players of Apex Legends are expressing dissatisfaction with the pricing model for the newly introduced Exotic Shards, a premium currency used for purchasing exclusive gun skins.
The start of Apex Legends Season 21 has been announced. Along with the typical weapon and Legend adjustments, players can also expect a new battle pass and the addition of a new Legend, Alter, known for their eerie tactics on the battlefield.
Despite this, the most noteworthy update was Apex’s continued focus on Artifacts, a type of universal Heirloom that was initially introduced during the Shadow Society event. These Artifacts now require Exotic Shards, a recently introduced premium currency, in order to be upgraded.
As gamers have delved into the latest season, they have uncovered two key facts about Exotic Shards: they have the ability to buy weapon designs, and their price is quite high.
In the in-game shop, players can purchase 10 Shards for $10, 50 Shards for $40 (including a $10 discount), and 110 Shards for $80 (including a $30 discount). Therefore, obtaining both skins, which each cost 50 Shards, would require a total of $80.
these skins are gas but 40 bucks per gun skin? insulting haha byu/Gnarstache inapexlegends
“I possess the original versions of both of these weapons. I refuse to spend any money on a reskinned version. Additionally, this particular Flatline skin was recently given out for free through completing challenges. While it may have a different color scheme, it is still the same weapon,”a player responded.
Some players also criticized Apex Legends’ monetization, with one stating, “Compared to the games I usually play, this has the most unfavorable monetization. I could have purchased 2 Elite and 2 eSport skins in Siege with the same amount and still have leftover money.”
Despite this, players will have the opportunity to earn some Exotic Shards through events and Battle Passes. For example, reaching level 89 in this season’s pass will reward players with at least 10 Shards. While it may require some grinding to obtain enough shards for your desired item, it is still attainable.
