Apex Legends Players Skeptical of Dev’s “Compromise” After Battle Pass Backlash

Some members of the Apex Legends community are not showing their support for Respawn’s decision to backtrack on certain Battle Pass changes.

Fans were not pleased with the details of Respawn’s planned Battle Pass update for Season 22, particularly the controversial price changes that were announced.

Following the news going live approximately two weeks prior, the Apex Legends studio released an apology and made some changes to their course. The most significant change being the ability for players to once again purchase the Premium Battle Pass for 950 Apex Coins in Season 22.

After facing backlash, Respawn’s decision to make a U-turn and address the issue was met with praise from both players and popular content creators. For instance, NiceWigg from 100 Thieves expressed their approval on Twitter/X, stating, “Great decision and acknowledgement.”

On Reddit, there has been a lot of attention on posts commending Respawn and EA for their responsiveness. In a separate thread on Apex Legends, another user celebrated “we won”in response to the news about the Battle Pass.

Despite this, there are still community members who remain skeptical. They believe that the companies were prepared for the backlash and only made a “compromise”in order to appear more favorable, while still ultimately benefiting from requiring players to purchase the battle pass twice per season.

Another doubtful fan expressed in the “We won” thread: “I’m still not convinced. It seems like a lot of deception. I despise the fact that they attempted to manipulate us and only changed course to protect their image.”

When one person expressed concerns about the future, another Apex user acknowledged that the company’s decisions regarding backtracking are carefully calculated to keep fans interested and willing to spend money, while also avoiding angering them too much.

Despite criticisms towards optimistic community members for being labeled as “naive” and “gullible,” another individual pointed out that this is not an isolated incident for the Apex publisher. They stated, “EA has a history of implementing changes and then retracting them partially.”

Upon the arrival of Season 22 on August 6, players of Apex Legends will have the opportunity to assess the significance of these Battle Pass modifications on their own terms.
