Respawn Entertainment has surprised Apex Legends players with a significant update aimed at addressing inconsistent enemy audio issues, yet questions persist regarding the necessity of teammate footstep audio.
The Apex Legends mid-Season 22 update has introduced a new game mode, various milestone event items, and several adjustments to gameplay and weapon balancing.
Interestingly, many players were taken aback that the P2020 and Mozambique Akimbo mechanics did not experience nerfs, especially since they dominated the ALGS Split 2 LAN event in August. Additionally, players were surprised that Crypto was not nerfed, despite developers conceding that his invisibility ability was too overpowering and was slated for nerfing in a future update.
Due to a series of hiccups and other contributing factors, the battle royale’s Steam player count plummeted to its lowest point in over three years on September 10. After heeding community feedback, Respawn addressed some concerns by increasing the reliability of footstep audio in the mid-season update.
While the community appreciates this change, players have raised concerns about the necessity of teammate footstep audio that can interfere with pinpointing enemy locations.
Pro player FURIA Jxmo expressed, “Remove teammate footsteps sound.”
Many echoed this sentiment, with one user stating, “I have no idea why teammate footsteps are a thing. I’m even more confused how we still have them in the game after five seasons.”
Another player commented, “This would be beneficial. Teammate sounds basically don’t matter.”
Following this update, players will find it easier to locate enemies; however, this task could be simplified if they weren’t also tasked with monitoring their teammates’ locations constantly.
Other noteworthy gameplay adjustments include reduced rates of top-tier items following a loot bin reset at the end of a match, alongside enhanced loot tick content.
