The 1x Digital Threat has been a topic of debate among Apex Legends players for a while now, particularly during the time when Bangalore was dominating the meta. However, the developers have decided to completely remove the optic from Apex in Season 21, as stated in early release notes.
During the peak of the “can’t see anything”meta, the Digital Threat was a lifesaver for numerous Apex Legends players. Being a rare find, the 4-10x scope that enables visibility through smoke and obstacles was commonly used at close range.
Despite the decision to remove them from SMGs in Season 20 in an attempt to diminish their impact, the choice was still made to limit their use to only Pistols and Shotguns. However, even with this adjustment, the ultimate decision was made to completely remove the optic from the available loot options.
According to IGN, this information was revealed prior to the official release of the patch notes, solidifying its status as one of several gameplay alterations in Season 21. However, what sets this optic apart in terms of effectiveness and why is it being eliminated?
Seer’s fall from grace brought the Digital Threat sight into prominence, but he has a chance of regaining his spot in the meta with it gone.
Following the completion of the meta scan, it became crucial to have a Digi-Threat sight in order to counter certain characters, particularly with the significant nerfs given to Legends such as Seer and Bloodhound.
Despite its primary purpose of providing visibility through Caustic and Bangalore’s smoke, the optic also proved to be extremely helpful in keeping track of and identifying enemies in the midst of chaotic battles.
The reason for limiting this optic to close-range weapons is clear: if it were available for long-range guns, it would become a necessity. However, its compatibility with only two weapon types greatly diminishes its usefulness and creates confusion. For example, the Wingman was not able to use this attachment due to its overwhelming power, but the fact that it was incompatible with only one pistol often caused confusion among players.
Ultimately, the decision to remove it from the loot pool was made in order to avoid the challenge of balancing it. While there is a possibility that it may return in the future, it will not be available during Season 21.
The removal of the scanner has the potential to significantly alter the Apex Legends meta for Season 21, potentially making it more viable for Legends with scanning abilities and causing a shift in the way Bangalore’s smoke is utilized within the meta.
Despite this, the information provided is based on early notes and gameplay overviews of Season 21 and may be subject to alterations.
