Apex Legends has recently fallen below an average of 100,000 players on Steam, marking its lowest player count since 2021. Despite the introduction of a new map and the exciting addition of dual-wield weapons in Season 22, the latest content update has not quite resonated with players.
It’s important to note that Apex Legends remains among the top games on Steam, frequently achieving peak player counts nearing 200,000. This enduring popularity highlights a substantial player base that many other games can only aspire to possess.
That said, there is a noticeable decline in the game’s player numbers, a trend that has continued even as Apex Legends receives significant content updates each season.

Analyzing the trends in player counts, Season 20 marked a significant comeback for Apex Legends, achieving impressive peak and concurrent player numbers. Season 21 helped sustain interest in May 2024, but the momentum faded quickly, resulting in a notable drop in average and peak player counts compared to Season 20.
Now, with Season 22, the average player count has dipped to below 100,000, with a peak of just 249,000 players. This represents nearly half of the peak players recorded in February 2024 and clearly indicates a waning interest in the game.

Additionally, the dual Mozambiques have stirred controversy, with the developers refraining from nerfing these powerful shotguns for an extended period, even as they dominated the game’s meta.
For Apex Legends to regain its footing and halt this trend, the developers must deliver compelling content in Season 23 to entice players back and preserve its standing as one of the leading titles in the battle royale genre.
