According to Apex Legends developers, an average of 100,000 accounts are banned each month for cheating in the game.
Despite being a popular competitive shooter, Apex Legends has consistently faced challenges with cheaters over the years. These cheating methods vary greatly, ranging from aimbots and radar hacks to wallhacks and other techniques.
Respawn Entertainment, the developer, has made significant efforts to address the issue by utilizing Easy Anti-Cheat to fight against rule-breaking attempts. As a result, any cheaters or hackers who are caught will face account bans.
In the interest of transparency, the developers have disclosed the current progress of their fight against cheaters.
Respawn revealed in a recent blog post that the number of banned accounts has exceeded 6 million since the game’s launch. Additionally, an average of 100,000 accounts are banned each month.
The development studio is committed to increasing its efforts by expanding the anti-cheat team to provide round-the-clock coverage.
“The post also mentions that we have enhanced our processes, introduced more capabilities, and are consistently implementing new tools and technologies at a faster pace.”
Despite these efforts, some Apex Legends players believe that the current measures of banning 100,000 accounts per month and increasing anti-cheat efforts are not sufficient in addressing the widespread problem.
In reaction to Jake Lucky’s tweet regarding the issue, a user highlighted the persistent doxxing problems and asserted that although the game may ban 100,000 cheaters every month, the actual number of cheaters in the game is likely five times higher and continuously increasing.
Some argue that although these “vanity metrics”may appear impressive, they hold no real significance as banned cheaters are able to simply create new accounts and continue their actions.
Other than Respawn, there are other companies also dealing with a high number of cheating accounts on a regular basis. In a recent case, Activision took action against Call of Duty cheaters by issuing a ban wave that resulted in over 25,000 accounts being banned.
