According to reports, Apple has halted production on the successor of the Vision Pro in order to concentrate on developing a more affordable version of the headset.
Ever since its debut at WWDC 2023, the exorbitant price tag of $3,500 for The Apple Vision Pro has deterred numerous potential buyers from making the purchase and has instead relegated them to window shopping.
Despite quickly starting development on its successor to the Vision Pro, Apple has reportedly halted progress on the project, according to a recent report from The Information.
Instead, it has been reported that the Cupertino company is in the process of developing a more affordable, scaled-down version of their popular handheld device, with plans to release it by the end of 2025.
According to sources within Apple’s supply chain, the company intends to split its Vision headset collection into two models, mirroring the Standard and Pro variations found in the iPhone series.
The report states that Apple is considering a price of $1500 for the lower-end model, which is almost three times the price of the base model Meta Quest 3.
Despite efforts to reduce costs without compromising the quality of the product, Apple is encountering challenges in the production of the more affordable Vision Pro.
Apple is reportedly focusing on reducing the weight of the lower-end XR headset model, an aspect that has been criticized by many early reviewers such as tech YouTuber MKBHD in their initial videos.
“He acknowledged, “This item is quite heavy, I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to keep wearing it.”
At the moment, it is uncertain if Apple has paused the production of the Vision Pro’s successor. Therefore, we will have to wait and see what plans they have for the future.
Just one week after Apple’s announcement of Vision OS 2 at WWDC 2024, which introduces new navigation gestures, a revamped Photos app, Spatial Video editing with Final Cut Pro, and the ability to mirror to bigger Macbook screens on the headset, this news has been released.
