According to a report, Apple is currently developing a new AI personality that will be featured on a new line of products. While similar to Siri, it is not the same as the existing virtual assistant.
According to reports, Apple is currently developing a tabletop robot that will feature a display similar to an iPad and a robotic arm, similar to the Meta Portal.
In his newsletter published on Sunday, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg disclosed that the creators of the iPhone are currently working on implementing a “humanlike”AI personality into their robots.
“According to Gurman, an essential aspect of developing robotics is creating a distinct personality. While Siri currently serves as the digital assistant for Apple devices, the company is also actively working on a new interface that mimics human behavior using generative AI. This interface is expected to be compatible with the upcoming tabletop product and other future Apple robotics devices.”
Based on Gurman’s depiction, the new AI may possess conversational skills comparable to the updated Siri with Apple Intelligence. This would allow it to comprehend context and provide answers while taking into account past conversations.
It is intriguing to consider why Apple would need another AI personality, given Siri’s extensive capabilities. The rationale likely involves the unique requirements of robotic devices.
Siri, on the other hand, is specifically designed for mobile devices with limited capabilities and is not equipped to handle a wide range of tasks such as processing input from vision sensors and microphones. Its capabilities are not suited for the complexity required for this new AI.
Currently, Apple still needs to use the A17 Pro chip or a higher version in order to enable the new AI-powered Siri. It is highly probable that a dedicated AI for robots will require even greater processing capabilities to handle its advanced tasks.
There is limited information available about the AI personality and robotic products from Apple at this point.
Gurman proposed that the initial robot, set to launch in 2026, will have a price tag under $1,000. Its main purpose will be as a video conferencing and browsing device.
