As the highly anticipated release of Arcane Season 2 approaches, the talented team at Fortiche Animation has reflected on one of the most poignant moments from the Netflix series – a scene that left viewers in tears, and not just from the comfort of their couches.
This adaptation of League of Legends has been a tremendous hit, focusing on the tumultuous relationship between sisters Vi and Jinx, who find themselves on opposite sides during a brewing conflict between Piltover and Zaun.
The first part of Arcane Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on November 9, with Part 2 and Part 3 following on November 16 and November 23, respectively.
Among the many memorable scenes, one that stood out for the animators was the heartbreaking moment when Vi turns her back on Jinx, who was known as Powder at that time.
This intense scene unfolds with Powder eagerly wanting to assist Vi, Vander, Mylo, and Claggor in their fight against Silco and his terrifying shimmer creatures. She attempts to contribute by deploying a homemade monkey bomb, which tragically results in the deaths of Vander, Mylo, and Claggor.
Upon witnessing the chaos and destruction, Powder joyfully races over, believing she has saved the day with her invention, only to be met with horror as Vi confronts her. “You did this?” Vi asks, and Powder soon realizes the grim reality.
In an emotionally charged moment, Vi unleashes her grief and frustration on Powder, who is in tears, pleading that she only wanted to help. “Why did you leave me?” Powder cries out, to which Vi harshly responds, “Because you’re a jinx. Do you understand?”
Vi walks away as Powder cries out for her to return, encapsulating one of the most devastating scenes of the season. For the animators, creating this sequence was a significant challenge.
This task was particularly daunting when they received the audio recording from the young actress voicing Powder, as the studio in Los Angeles told them, “Just so you know, everyone shed tears during the recording.”
“And then they said, ‘No pressure,’” Maunory joked, with Carmel adding, “You know, everyone needs to cry. This is the climax of the first trilogy, making it a truly significant moment.”
Ultimately, the studio excelled in bringing this powerful sequence to life, further enhanced by Mia Sinclair Jenness’s portrayal of Powder before she transforms into Jinx, voiced by Ella Purnell.
Fans can expect many more emotional moments in Arcane Season 2. In the meantime, be sure to check out what we know about Stranger Things Season 5, The Sandman Season 2, and Squid Game Season 2.
