Arcane Creators Dismiss 5-Season Show Rumors as “Tomfoolery”

The Truth Behind Arcane’s Seasons: Debunking the Five-Season Myth

The animated series Arcane has officially put to rest the speculation surrounding a potential five-season arc, dismissing it as mere “tomfoolery,” as confirmed by the show’s creators.

Final Season Launch

Now in its concluding chapter, Arcane has released its second and final season on Netflix, with the first three episodes currently available and the remaining six episodes slated for release throughout November 2024.

Record-Breaking Production Costs

In a recent revelation, it was disclosed that creating Arcane entailed a breathtaking budget of $250 million, making it the most expensive animated series in history by a substantial margin. According to a report from Variety dated November 6, 2024, Riot Games had originally considered a five-season duration for the series but ultimately opted for a two-season conclusion due to its high production costs.

Setting the Record Straight

In an interview with TechRadar, co-creators Christian Linke and Alex Yee confirmed that the plan for a two-season run was outlined from the start. Linke revealed that the rumor of a five-season plan originated from a prank pulled by Nicolo Laurent, the former CEO of Riot Games.

A Prank Gone Awry

Linke recounted the amusing incident, stating, “Nicolo thought it would be really funny to pull me into a room and say, ‘Hey, I know you haven’t had the green light yet, and I decided I’m not going to give it to you.’ I sat there looking pretty upset before he added, ‘Because I’m giving you the go-ahead for five seasons!’” This playful joke spurred speculation that was never intended.

Sticking to the Vision

Yee reinforced the commitment to conclude the story of Vi and Jinx within two seasons, explaining that, “The story that’s concluding with this season is the one we plotted out from the get-go.” Linke added that while they envisioned possibilities for continuing the narrative beyond two seasons, their focus was always on delivering a complete story in this timeframe.

Final Episodes Release Schedule

As the anticipation builds, Arcane Season 2 Part 1 is now streaming on Netflix, with Part 2 set to be released on November 16, followed by the final installment on November 23.
