Are Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Free Holiday Packs Really Worth It?

The Pokémon TCG Pocket is currently hosting a Holiday 2024 event that includes a giveaway of free booster packs. However, it appears that these packs do not offer the same value as the standard packs that players can earn through gameplay or purchase.

As 2024 comes to a close, Pokémon Pocket is buzzing with activity. The recent Lightning Mass Outbreak event has provided players with an opportunity to capture a Zapdos ex. The excitement continues with the Holiday 2024 event, where daily log-ins over a week reward players with four Mythical Island packs as well as thirty-six Pack Hourglasses.

Nevertheless, players need to be cautious as recent discussions on Reddit have shed light on some limitations associated with these festive packs.

Limitations of Pokémon Go’s Holiday 2024 Packs

Typically, when players open packs in Pokémon Pocket, they earn Pack Points that can be used to craft various cards. Earning these points is crucial for acquiring competitive cards, especially rarer ones like Sabrina or Leaf.

Unfortunately, the Mythical Island packs available during the Holiday 2024 event do not yield any Pack Points, despite players only expecting a minor allocation. Additionally, these free packs do not contribute towards fulfilling the Mission that entails opening a total of sixty packs. It’s important to note that the Mission requires the use of Pack Stamina for its completion.

On a positive note, claiming these packs does reward players with Shinedust, which is beneficial primarily for enhancing the Flair of existing cards, rather than for obtaining new cards themselves.

While it’s disappointing that the Holiday 2024 event packs may not be as rewarding as anticipated—especially given the substantial Pack Points needed for acquiring rare cards—the opportunity to log in and earn four Mythical Island boosters, along with other free packs, still presents players with a chance of obtaining cards they may need.
