The film is scheduled to debut in theaters across the globe for a limited period, with its first showing on September 18th. It guarantees to showcase exclusive interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and live performances.
Despite the enthusiasm of many ARMYs who have already bought tickets, a certain segment of the fandom is advocating for a boycott in response to the release.
After seeing official statements from companies like Trafalgar, which oversees venues and theaters, certain ARMYs have called for the cancellation of the screenings of “JUNG KOOK: I AM STILL”in Israel.
This appeal is a result of the ongoing strife in Palestine. According to Al Jazeera, the Gaza Strip has suffered immense casualties since October 2023, with over 40,223 individuals losing their lives, including nearly 16,500 children, as a result of Israeli attacks. This dire situation has also left thousands missing and countless others injured, displaced, and struggling to survive.
Despite ongoing accusations of being an “apartheid state” due to its policies and actions in the occupied Palestinian territories, Israel has still chosen to release “JUNG KOOK: I AM STILL” in their country. This decision has sparked widespread criticism from netizens who believe it is unethical, particularly in light of the ongoing conflict with Palestine.
Despite being accused of committing crimes against humanity, specifically apartheid, by leading human rights organizations, Israel and some of its Western allies vehemently deny these claims and often dismiss them as antisemitic.
In light of this situation, ARMYs have turned to social media to voice their concerns and call for HYBE to cancel the planned screenings of “JUNG KOOK: I AM STILL” in Israel. The hashtag #HYBEDivestFromZionism has gained traction, with over 11,600 posts at the current time. Additionally, fans are reaching out to the companies directly in hopes of influencing their decision. This is not the first time fans have rallied to cancel screenings of documentaries, as similar efforts were made in the past for SEVENTEEN and BTS member Suga.
According to a recent report from Krb, fans of BTS, known as ARMYs, are calling for HYBE to cancel the planned screenings of the documentary featuring member Jungkook in Israel.
