April 2025 promises to be an exhilarating month for Action Role-Playing Game (ARPG) enthusiasts. Several leading titles are gearing up for substantial content updates, including some that have remained idle for nearly a year. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in the latest ARPG experiences, here’s what to keep an eye on in April.
Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt – April 4
Path of Exile 2’s upcoming patch, titled “Dawn of the Hunt, ”has stirred significant excitement with major updates anticipated for the endgame and ascendancy systems. Developer Grinding Gear Games (GGG) will unveil comprehensive details in a pre-launch livestream event—a signature move for the studio.
This patch will introduce a brand-new class, along with multiple unique ascendancies, fresh unique items, and enhancements to the endgame mechanics involving maps and towers. While feedback suggests that some aspects of the endgame still require refinement, such as the current perception of tower mechanics among players, numerous adjustments have already been implemented.
Particularly noteworthy is the introduction of the Huntress class, which is expected to become the most popular choice in this update. To further refresh the gameplay experience, an economy reset will also take place, inviting players to dive back into the grind.
Last Epoch: Tomb of the Erased – April 17
The ARPG community has been buzzing with discussions surrounding the phased releases of “Dawn of the Hunt”from Path of Exile 2 and Last Epoch’s “Tomb of the Erased.”Initially scheduled for launch on April 4, Last Epoch’s new season will now debut on April 17, a strategic delay to sidestep clashes with its competitor.
Fans of Last Epoch have been eagerly awaiting new content, especially since the release of “1.1 Harbingers of Ruin”in July 2024. This upcoming season marks just the second major update, following a nine-month drought, and is packed with essential endgame improvements. Last Epoch is often seen as a harmonious blend of complexity; it appeals to players seeking a balance between the straightforwardness of Diablo 4 and the intricate systems of Path of Exile.
The game’s innovative crafting system is particularly noteworthy, making Last Epoch a must-play this April—unless, of course, you are also drawn to the new season of Path of Exile 1.
No Rest for the Wicked: The Breach – April 30
No Rest for the Wicked is an intriguing ARPG that has garnered mixed responses from players. A significant shift for the game comes from the developers, Moon Studios, who have reacquired publishing rights, thus gaining full independence to fulfill their creative vision without constraints.
The upcoming “Breach”update promises to introduce pivotal narrative developments, as well as enhancements to building projects, gear, theorycrafting, and a new loot drop algorithm. Given the rocky launch history of No Rest for the Wicked, the enthusiasm displayed in their recent developer showcase indicates a renewed commitment to improving the game.
Diablo 4: Season 9 – April 29
Originally slated for mid-April, Diablo 4’s much-anticipated Season 9 has now been scheduled for April 29. This adjustment appears poised to maintain the timeline for release and come without major setbacks.
Season 9 will introduce three new bosses as significant additions, many of whom players will recognize from the Vessel of Hatred campaign. Among these new adversaries are Belial, Varshan, Beast in the Ice, Grigoire, and Zir.
In a notable shift, players will no longer be required to gather summoning materials to engage these bosses; instead, they will need Lair Keys to initiate fights, thus lowering the barrier for new players. Although loot won’t be automatically awarded for initial engagements, this offers a strategic win for those just starting out.
This upcoming season will also include new sources of power derived from a boss power mechanic, allowing players to absorb abilities from defeated foes and merge them into their strategies. Additionally, improvements promise more unique items, legendary aspects, and new open-world events—elements that make Season 9 a compelling opportunity for Diablo 4 aficionados.
