How to Ascend: A Step-by-Step Guide

Before embarking on your Ascendancy journey in Path of Exile 2, it’s crucial to determine your desired build. Your choice of Ascendancy will significantly influence your gameplay experience, making it vital to have a clear vision of your character’s future direction.

To initiate your Ascendancy, start with the Trial of the Sehkemas. This trial becomes accessible in Act 2 after defeating Balbala, from whom you will need to acquire the Barya coin to participate in the trial.

The Trial of the Sehkemas consists of eight challenging rooms, each requiring you to defeat waves of enemies under increasingly challenging conditions. Be prepared for various debuffs and statutory reductions that culminate in a final battle against a formidable boss in the eighth room.

Throughout this trial, you’ll manage an honor meter, which acts as a substitute for your health. Should this meter deplete, the trial ends, necessitating a restart. Vigilance over your honor meter is crucial for survival throughout the ordeal.

If you find the Trial formidable, consider leveling up your character and returning better prepared. Upon conquering the boss, approach the Altar of Ascendancies to select your Ascendancy Class and assign your first two Ascendancy Points.

Understanding Ascendancy Points

Completing the Trial of the Sehkemas grants you your first two Ascendancy Points, with a potential total of eight available to enhance your skills.

To acquire additional Ascendancy Points, you need to conquer the second floor of the Trial of the Sehkemas. This requires the Djinn Barya coin, which you can obtain by returning after your initial trial success. Additional points can be achieved by completing the next two floors.

Once you reach the Temple of Chaos in Act 3, you can earn two more Ascendancy Points through the Trials of Chaos. To initiate, defeat Xyclucian, the Chimera, located in the Chimeral Wetlands, and collect the Chimeral Inscribed Ultimatum, which serves as your key for the subsequent trial.

Further Ascendancy Points can be obtained by completing floors three and four of the Trial of the Sehkemas or by finishing ten Trials of Chaos. Each of these activities will require acquiring the corresponding Inscribed Ultimatum and Djinn Barya coins, which drop randomly from enemies you encounter during quests.

Lastly, a secret challenge room exists beyond the Trials of Chaos, housing a hidden boss. While you may have sufficient Ascendancy Points by this time, defeating the secret boss offers another opportunity to earn more if required.

Keep in mind, once you select an Ascendancy Class, that choice is final. However, you can experiment with various builds within that classification. During early access, each character is limited to two Ascendancy Classes, but this will expand to three when the game launches fully.
