Prominent Twitch streamer Asmongold has shown support for FaZe Clan following controversial remarks made by actress Grace Van Dien during her speech at the 2024 Streamer Awards. Van Dien, recognized for her role as Chrissy Cunningham in Stranger Things Season 4, presented the award for Best FPS Streamer on December 7, 2024, and used the opportunity to criticize the gaming organization.
In her address, Van Dien reflected on her brief tenure with FaZe Clan in 2023, which ended amid a significant backlash from fans and other members of the organization. This culminated in a heated exchange between her and FaZe Rain, leading to her departure from the group. Her subsequent comments during the Streamer Awards—specifically, “I am hard-stuck Bronze in every game I play, that’s why I was never accepted into FaZe, right guys?” —highlight her ongoing frustration with the situation.

Following these remarks, members of FaZe, particularly co-founder Ricky Banks, responded sharply. Banks publicly dismissed Van Dien, branding her a “slam pig” and a “f*cking cornball that none of us wanted.” This incident led Van Dien to deactivate her X account as a reaction to the online hostility, a move that Asmongold supported, suggesting that the backlash was warranted.
Asmongold Commends FaZe Clan’s Response to Van Dien
In his commentary, Asmongold referred to Van Dien as a “diversity hire” intended to “rehabilitate the image of the FaZe brand.” He emphasized his approval of FaZe Clan’s return to their so-called “toxic” gaming culture, stating, “I am so glad FaZe is back to doing what they do best: being toxic gamer bros, and I love it. Play the part!”
When fans accused FaZe members of disrespecting women, Asmongold offered a contrasting perspective, asserting that Van Dien’s behavior incited such reactions. He argued, “If you believe in equality, then you should believe that, if you’re a woman, and you’re speaking out and you’re being hostile and rude, then people should be able to respond to that in the same way.” He further commented that if she engages in insults, she should expect similar retorts.
Asmongold previously defended Van Dien against the harsh criticism from FaZe members, especially after FaZe Rain’s disparaging remarks about her appearance. However, he insisted that her involvement with FaZe Clan was a miscalculation on her part, stating in a broadcast from June 2023, “she made a mistake, she should have never f*cking been in there. She should have seen that, she should have gotten the f*ck out, and that’s a fact.”
While Banks has since deleted several of his tweets targeting Grace, he remains steadfast in his original position against her. In the wake of these events, Van Dien has made her other social media accounts private.
