Asmongold didn’t spare any criticism for Concord, deeming it “trash”and ranking it among the biggest gaming disappointments such as E.T. and Superman 64 in his “Hall of Shame”.
According to Asmongold, a significant number of individuals (in the triple digits) will lose their jobs due to the closure of PlayStation’s Concord.
Similarly, he made no effort to conceal his contentment, declaring, “A large number of individuals, myself included, are delighted with this outcome. The game appeared subpar, and that is the consequence.”
Asmongold has publicly expressed his dislike for Concord for some time. In a previous video, he criticized the game’s character designs, describing it as “Overwatch for those who prefer larger individuals”and mocking its user interface by stating he has seen mobile games with better UI.
Upon reading Game Director Ryan Ellis’ PlayStation blog post announcing Concord’s downfall, Asmongold wasted no time in drawing parallels between it and other infamous gaming disasters, such as E.T. and Superman 64.
In 1999, Superman 64 was a massive failure due to its terrible controls, unappealing graphics hidden by fog, and monotonous and repetitive gameplay. Its lackluster storyline and technical issues solidified its reputation as a notorious disaster in the world of gaming.
Despite being based on the popular film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the video game adaptation was a major failure. It suffered from a rushed production of only five weeks, which resulted in frustrating gameplay and difficult controls. As a result, its disastrous reception was a contributing factor to the 1983 video game crash, solidifying its place as a cautionary tale in the history of gaming.
According to reports, Asmongold has deemed Concord worthy of the Hall of Shame, as the game sold fewer than 25,000 copies and only reached a peak of 700 players on Steam.
“He stated that Concord will undoubtedly secure a place in the pantheon of game failures. The colossal and disastrous failure will be etched in people’s memories for years to come.”
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Firewalk Studios, the developer of Concord, their future remains uncertain. The game’s disastrous launch and Asmongold’s critical remarks have caused speculation among the gaming community about whether they will be granted another opportunity to create a successful game.
