Asmongold Addresses FBI Inquiry Over $30K Streaming Bounty
Popular Twitch streamer Asmongold, also known as Zack, recently disclosed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation reached out to him regarding a $30,000 bounty that another streamer purportedly placed on him. However, he decided against taking any legal measures.
During a live stream held on November 8, a viewer informed Asmongold about a clip in which a fellow streamer mentioned this substantial bounty, yet had not faced any repercussions. Asmongold responded by indicating that the individual was merely “joking around.”
After a brief pause for reflection, he elaborated on the circumstances, sharing, “The FBI actually contacted me about that.” Asmongold explained his rationale for not pursuing charges, stating, “I rewatched the clip, and she clearly was not talking about me, so I thought it was a waste of time.” This highlights his pragmatic approach to the situation.
While Asmongold did not initially name anyone involved in the bounty, a viewer later mentioned Mark Kern, a former Blizzard employee known as Grummz, as the intended target. It turns out that Twitch streamer Denims had jokingly offered $30,000 for anyone who could make Grummz “disappear.”
Adding to the drama, Toneman, who had initiated a $20,000 bounty on Grummz, found himself banned from X (formerly Twitter) due to his reckless comments.
Asmongold concluded his remarks by reiterating, “She wasn’t talking about me, so that’s why I didn’t push it, even though it maybe could have been interpreted that way.” This showcases his focus on understanding context in potentially inflammatory situations.
This incident occurred amidst another controversy involving fellow Twitch streamer Central Committee. He faced a ban following inflammatory remarks about YouTube and Kick creator, Destiny. Central Committee, whose real name is Mike from PA, provocatively stated, “Holy s**t guys if you live in Florida I have an opportunity for you. If you want to earn $100k let me know.”
While the exact length of Central Committee’s ban remains unclear, he later acknowledged that he “deserved the ban,” claiming his earlier comments were intended as a joke.
Asmongold himself is no stranger to bans for controversial remarks, having previously received a two-week suspension from Twitch in October due to contentious comments regarding Palestine. This ongoing trend highlights the delicate balance streamers must maintain when navigating humor and serious topics in their interactions.
