Asmongold Reveals Path of Exile 2’s Potential to “Cannibalize” Diablo’s Player Base

Asmongold highlighted the advanced visuals, next-gen mechanics, and improved accessibility of Path of Exile 2 as pivotal factors that could reshape the ARPG landscape. “I genuinely believe that PoE2 has the potential to cannibalize the Diablo audience in ways that PoE1 simply couldn’t,” he remarked, suggesting that Blizzard executives are feeling the pressure, as corroborated by emerging viewer statistics.

Following the livestream, Rod Ferguson, the general manager of Diablo, made a notable post on X, arguing that ARPGs should be referred to as “Diablo-like” instead of being compared to competitors. In response, Asmongold criticized Ferguson’s attempt to redefine the genre, claiming that the circumstances indicate that Diablo may no longer hold its dominant position.
