Asmongold’s Take on Marvel Rivals: Achievements Overwatch Could Never Attain

Twitch streamer and YouTuber Asmongold recently explored the world of Marvel Rivals, offering intriguing comparisons to the well-known title Overwatch. In particular, he highlighted a gameplay element that he believes sets Marvel Rivals apart.

Although Asmongold typically steers clear of first-person shooters (FPS), he has not held back when discussing Overwatch, particularly its sequel. His critiques have ranged from calling the progression system excessively “grindy” to outright labeling it a “downgrade.” He even admitted that the sensory overload caused by the visual effects in Overwatch 2 detracted from his gaming experience. “I really didn’t like the color effects that would be on my screen when I would get attacked or healed,” he remarked candidly. “Yeah, it’s ugly.”

Discovering Marvel Rivals: Asmongold’s New Favorite?

During a three-hour stream, Asmongold tested various characters, ultimately designating The Punisher as his favorite. His gameplay revealed a humbling realization: “Damn, I’m really sh*tty… These hitboxes are way tighter than Overwatch,” he commented, candidly sharing his struggles with aiming accuracy.

The demanding nature of Marvel Rivals, which necessitates precision aiming, posed a challenge for Asmongold. “I keep aiming over them… Yeah, like these are tighter than Overwatch,” he remarked, acknowledging the adjustments required for successful gameplay.

Despite his initial self-criticism, Asmongold expressed admiration for Marvel Rivals, declaring, “This is a new Overwatch. I can see why people like this game.” He praised the game mechanics and expressed interest in exploring ranked play in the future, stating, “The mechanics are excellent… Tomorrow, I’ll play ranked.”

While he stopped short of labeling Marvel Rivals an outright Overwatch killer—contrasting it with his more potent comparisons of Path of Exile 2 to Diablo 4—he still offered substantial praise. He highlighted the tactical gameplay, noting, “It’s more precise than I expected.”

Should Asmongold continue to champion Marvel Rivals, he may significantly elevate its standing in the gaming community. For the moment, his journey from skeptic to supporter might convert others, proving that Marvel’s “knockoff” is indeed a worthy challenger in the FPS landscape.
