As the excitement builds for the impending release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows in February 2025, developers have begun to share intriguing insights about the game’s narrative and overall length. With just a couple of months remaining until launch, fans are eager to learn more about what lies ahead in this latest installment.
The spotlight recently shone on Assassin’s Creed Shadows through a new gameplay overview, which offered details on combat mechanics, dual protagonists, and an array of weapons. Following this release, key developers engaged with fans during a Reddit AMA, addressing a multitude of questions pertaining to the central story and supplementary side quests.
Developers Offer Clues About the Story Length in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
During the Reddit AMA, a developer shed light on the anticipated length of the main storyline. They mentioned that due to the expansive open-world format of the game, estimating its duration is challenging. However, they indicated that the length of the main quest is expected to be on par with that of other recent major titles, such as Assassin’s Creed Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla.
This insight hints that players should prepare for a lengthy gaming experience rather than a streamlined narrative akin to Mirage or the earlier iterations of the franchise. According to data sourced from How Long to Beat, it appears that players can anticipate spending around 45 hours on average to complete the campaigns of Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla.
In addition to laying out expectations for the main story’s duration, developers also teased the modern-day narrative that accompanies the game. The modern story in Valhalla, for instance, navigated the journey of Layla Hassan, a character introduced in Origins, who then transitioned into the role of Basim in Mirage.
Without divulging any spoilers, Ubisoft’s team stated during the AMA: “Shadows will lay the groundwork for a new chapter of modern narrative that will be different from what we have done in the past…” This suggests exciting new developments for fans of the series.
While Basim’s character, who has played a significant role in prior titles, will not make an appearance in Shadows, there are hints that unused elements from his storyline in Mirage could point towards a future narrative set in a more distant time period. However, specific details are likely to remain undisclosed until the game launches.
As the release date approaches, fans of the franchise can look forward to a fresh and ambitious take on storytelling within the Assassin’s Creed universe, complete with a robust main quest and the promise of a new direction in the modern-day narrative.
