Assassin’s Creed Shadows Release Pushed Back for Additional Title Polishing

Ubisoft has announced that the release date for Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been postponed to February 14, 2025. This delay is aimed at providing the game with “additional polish” to enhance the experience for fans of the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

In a September 25 update, Ubisoft revealed that the game will no longer be available on its initial date of November 15, 2024. The developer cited its recent experiences with the launch of Star Wars Outlaws as a factor influencing this decision.

Ubisoft confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is now “feature complete” and will not include a Season Pass model, ensuring that all players can enjoy the game on its release date without additional purchases. Those who pre-order will receive the first expansion at no extra cost.

In recent days, there have been indications that the game might be delayed as Ubisoft withdrew from several gaming showcases. However, the development team has maintained an active presence in press events, and gameplay footage continues to emerge.

The upcoming release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has sparked considerable debate since its announcement, with some critics arguing the game lacks historical accuracy. Ubisoft has addressed these concerns directly.

“Finally, let me address some of the polarized comments around Ubisoft lately. I want to reaffirm that we are an entertainment-first company, creating games for the broadest possible audience, and our goal is not to push any specific agenda. We remain committed to creating games for fans and players that everyone can enjoy,” stated Yves Guillemot, Co-Founder and CEO of Ubisoft, in the announcement.

Despite positive reviews, Star Wars Outlaws did not achieve its expected sales targets, prompting Ubisoft to release more updates following its launch to enhance the player experience.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will feature dual protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke, set against the backdrop of feudal Japan. The game is scheduled to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Luna platforms. Ubisoft is particularly highlighting the game’s dynamics weather system and the intertwined narratives of its protagonists leading up to its release.
