Despite its release being three years away, Violent Nature is already generating buzz as one of the most highly anticipated horror films of 2024. In a secret audience recording, one viewer was so disturbed by the film that they vomited, while others were left gasping for air.
Despite decades of horror movies using some form of the phrase “it’ll make you vomit,”there is evidence to suggest that Chris Nash’s subversive film In a Violent Nature may actually live up to such claims.
Although it is not unusual for slasher films to adopt the point of view of the killer (as seen in iconic movies like Halloween and Peeping Tom), this particular film takes it a step further by telling the entire story from the perspective of the antagonist. Early reviews suggest that it is filled with gruesome and stomach-turning death scenes.
Prior to its release later this month, the marketing for the film has been intensifying. An online recording of the audience’s reactions during a preview screening has also been shared. While the sound is difficult to decipher, it appears to be a tugging chain that had a profound effect on the viewers. Their reactions, including gasps, nervous laughter, and applause, can be heard clearly.

Film Updates reported that one person in the audience fell ill during the screening.
One could understandably be skeptical – however, there’s another important detail to consider: the film will be released in theaters without a rating. This does not mean it is R-rated or NC-17; rather, the MPAA has not assigned it an age rating. In simpler terms, the movie will contain graphic violence and gore.
During an interview with Dread Central, Nash hinted at the kills of “Johnny”, explaining that he had his own set of tools and weapons. He wanted to use them in more imaginative ways, unlike a typical machete. Nash stated that he aimed to utilize the tools to perform specific and distinctive actions, as mentioned in his conversation with Dread Central.
The official synopsis describes a story in which a locket is taken from a collapsed fire tower in the woods, revealing the rotting corpse of Johnny. His vengeful spirit, fueled by a 60-year-old crime, is resurrected and becomes determined to retrieve the locket. He targets a group of vacationing teenagers who are responsible for the theft and systematically kills them in his quest to reclaim the locket and eliminate anyone who gets in his way.
A Violent Nature will be released in theaters on May 31, with a later streaming release on Shudder. While waiting, discover other new films available for streaming this month, and look forward to exciting horror releases in 2024.
