AverageJonas explains why he’s quitting Valorant permanently for Valve’s Deadlock

AverageJonas has officially announced his retirement from the Valorant scene, citing various reasons including burnout. He stated that he will be transitioning to Valve’s MOBA shooter, Deadlock, instead.

AverageJonas, a popular content creator in the Valorant community, has been well-known for quite some time. He is recognized for his expertise in Sova lineups, his impressive operatic singing voice, and his tendency to purchase every skin available in the game. As a result, he has gained the admiration of Valorant players worldwide.

Despite the success he had in Valorant, AverageJonas’ time with the game has ultimately come to an end. In a video announcement on August 25, the streamer cited multiple reasons for his departure.

Despite departing, Jonas expressed his enduring adoration for Valorant and the opportunities it provided him. He went from losing his job as an opera singer to embarking on a successful career as a streamer, attracting a dedicated community of line-up enthusiasts.

Despite acknowledging the love for streaming, he also acknowledged that it has come at a price. The streamer revealed feeling burnt out from consistently playing and streaming the same game for the past four years, and also dealing with various health problems, has had a significant impact.

Similarly, Jonas’ passion for theory crafting has also caused some limitations in his ability to do so within the confines of Valorant’s genre, particularly following the numerous nerfs to Sova.

“I have come to the realization that in order to continue pursuing this career for many years, I need to prioritize my happiness. Lately, I haven’t been feeling fulfilled while streaming Valorant, which is why I have shifted towards doing more variety content.”

The streamer’s decision to explore additional games beyond Valorant, such as DOTA and Palworld, reignited their passion for gaming, according to their explanation.

“These two games evoked the same emotions I had when I first started streaming four and a half years ago. It made me realize the significance of paying attention to these feelings, as I don’t want my viewers to watch a streamer who is only feeling down. I truly believe that my content is at its best when I am happy while creating it.”

Jonas saw this as the ideal chance, as they had received an invitation to participate in Valve’s exclusive playtest of Deadlock. This game blends elements of shooters such as Overwatch with the intricate statistics found in games like League of Legends and DOTA, making it a unique MOBA shooter experience.

“As I continue to play this game, I am increasingly convinced that it encompasses everything I desire in a game that I can create content for. Its limitless potential for exploration, teaching, theory crafting, and enjoyment has reignited the same passion I felt when I first began streaming.”

With that, Jonas declared his decision to completely retire from Valorant, no longer pursuing any content creation or casting opportunities.

“I understand that this decision may not be well received by some of you. If you choose not to continue following my journey, I completely respect your decision. I am grateful for your support and for watching my content all these years. However, I also have to prioritize my own happiness and make this decision for myself.”

The streamer fondly recalled his time spent playing Valorant. With tears in his eyes, he concluded by commemorating all the hours he had devoted to practicing in the FPS.

“I will never forget the Sova main who diligently practiced in custom games every day for years. Thank you very much.”
