Legendary Pokémon can serve as formidable allies in Pokémon Go, but there’s one regular Pokémon that can dominate any that try to challenge it, and it’s firmly under the control of Team Go Rocket’s leader, Giovanni.
In Pokémon Go, Legendary and Mythical Pokémon are known for their immense power. While they can present a challenge to catch, obtaining a Shadow Legendary with excellent stats can be a game-changer in many battles.
However, in Pokémon battles, stats aren’t the sole determining factor. Type advantage plays a crucial role, along with the selection of Quick and Charged Moves available in the mobile game.
A key adversary in Pokémon Go is Giovanni, the head of Team Go Rocket, who utilizes a formidable Persian. While Persian may not shine in the mainline games, as noted by some users on the Pokemon Go Reddit, it has the capability to take down a powerful Legendary like Xerneas.

One Reddit user remarked, “Even if you had a strong Fighting type, Persian can hit back hard with a Fairy move,” humorously highlighting how Giovanni’s Persian can be more challenging than some Legendary Pokémon.
Another user humorously noted, “Have you ever met a cat? A cat could absolutely defeat god, if it weren’t too busy sleeping,” while another joked, “The cat’s claws are just SO fast you die before you even had a chance.”
Most discussions in the thread focused on strategies to defeat Giovanni’s Persian. The reality is, having a Legendary Pokémon doesn’t guarantee a win against a Normal-type cat.
If you train a Machamp—a relatively easy task given the abundance of Machop in the Pokémon Go overworld—and teach it effective moves, you’ll easily take down Team Go Rocket’s elusive kitty.
Furthermore, Pokémon like Lucario and Annihilape can also be effective, as Normal types are primarily weak to Fighting moves. While acquiring these Pokémon might take some effort, it’s well worth it if you’re aiming to challenge Team Go Rocket for their Shadow Pokémon.
Interestingly, it’s amusing to think that even godly creatures can be outmatched by a simple cat. Such is the nature of Pokémon, where even deities must follow the strategic rules of JRPG-style combat.
