Ayaneo is currently developing two additional premium handheld devices, both of which are inspired by the classic Game Boy design and are aimed towards retro gaming enthusiasts.
Ever since Valve’s Steam Deck was released, the handheld gaming market has experienced immense growth in popularity. Ayaneo was one of the first companies to take advantage of this trend and has consistently released new devices, making it seem like there is a new product every week.
The company has expanded its presence in the retro nostalgia market by revealing two new handhelds modeled after the classic Game Boy and Game Boy Micro designs.
Ayaneo’s latest device, the Pocket DMG, was recently unveiled after previous speculation. According to a press release, the Pocket DMG is a homage to the classic Game Boy, designed as a comprehensive tribute.
The Pocket DMG is equipped with an OLED screen that boasts a 1240 x 1080 resolution. It also features a compact analog stick and touchpad, as well as ‘Coastline’ shoulder buttons that can be utilized for emulating modern games that require analog capabilities.
The Ayaneo Pocket Micro is the second device in the Ayaneo line. It pays tribute to the Game Boy Micro, a lesser-known but highly sought-after member of the Game Boy family. Like the lower screen of the Ayaneo Flip DS, the Pocket Micro features a 3.5-inch display with a resolution of 960 x 640, four times higher than the screen found on the Game Boy Advance.
The Pocket Micro has been released in various colorways, including ones inspired by the Nintendo Famicom and the NES. The Famicom Game Boy Micro is highly sought-after and is a nod to the rarity of this particular Game Boy Micro model, which can be found for prices upwards of $280 on the aftermarket.
Furthermore, the AG01, an external GPU dock with a space-themed design, will be introduced by the company. Updates to the AM01 will also be included, featuring new Ryzen 8000 processors and a slightly modified appearance. Additionally, the Air 1S will receive a Ryzen 8000 upgrade and a retro power bank inspired by the design of the SNES. The company has its sights set on a successful 2024, with a renewed emphasis on moving away from competing against Steam Deck.
