Ayaneo’s highly anticipated Pocket DMG and Pocket Micro will soon be released. However, the upgraded Pocket DMG, which takes inspiration from the Game Boy, might come with a higher price tag than expected.
Ayaneo’s venture into the realm of Android handheld devices continues, as the company announced on a live stream that the IndieGoGo campaigns for both the Pocket DMG and Pocket Micro have officially launched.
The backers of the Pocket DMG can expect to receive their devices in October 2024. The handheld will be equipped with the top-of-the-line Snapdragon G3X chipset and an OLED display. Early backers can purchase the Android device for $339, while late backers will have to pay $419. The standard retail price for the device will be $449 after its official launch.
For those seeking the color scheme that best resembles Nintendo’s iconic handheld, be prepared to spend up to $699 at the retail price for the top-of-the-line model with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
The system will come equipped with a high-capacity 6000mAh battery, providing users with a substantial battery life. Some design elements, such as a single analog stick with a digital touchpad and a 4:3 screen, have caused some speculation due to the system’s powerful capabilities. More information can be found on the IndieGoGo campaign page for the Pocket DMG Snapdragon G3X Gen 2 vertical handheld.
Pocket Micro Pricing Revealed
Ayaneo has recently released their tribute to the Game Boy Micro, called the Ayaneo Pocket Micro, which is now available on IndieGoGo and is expected to be shipped in September 2024. The device features a rectangular machined aluminum design and a 3.5-inch IPS display, providing a truly authentic GBA experience.
The Helio G99 chip may not set any records, but it is more than capable of handling simpler emulation tasks for consoles such as the PS2.
Fortunately, the starting price for this product is only $189 and $199 for early supporters, while the base model will have a MSRP of $219 on IndieGoGo.
Despite their high price tags, Ayaneo’s expansion into products beyond those similar to the Steam Deck has resulted in stunning handheld devices. With strong competition from other brands such as Anbernic, Ayn, and Miyoo in the handheld market, it will be a challenge for anyone to surpass these designs.
