BABYMONSTER’s Ahyeon Sparks Heated Debate After ‘Lazy’ Dancing Accusation

A heated debate erupted between K-Netz and BAEMON fans on an online forum after Ahyeon was labelled as a “lazy”dancer.

On July 20, BABYMONSTER took the stage at the Tencent Music Entertainment Awards (TMEA). Their performance of “LIKE THAT,”their well-known song, exuded charisma and confidence as they flawlessly executed the choreography.

Despite the impressive visuals, vocals, and dance skills displayed by all members, it was once again Ahyeon who stood out with her energetic performance.

Beforehand, she faced significant backlash for “overdancing,”with claims that her performance did not align with the rest of the group. Netizens advised her to dial it back as they felt she was “overshadowing”her fellow members and even accused her of attempting to “steal the spotlight”from them.

Ahyeon’s tendency to stand out “too much”resulted in her receiving hurtful comments. During the group’s promotional activities for “FOREVER,”fans observed Ahyeon adjusting her dance moves to synchronize with those of other BAEMON members.

Despite the change in her energy, netizens were still not satisfied and continued to call out Ahyeon for her “lazy”dancing. In the video of their performance, Ahyeon was observed barely completing the choreography and her lackluster movements were once again brought to attention.

Despite not watching the entire performance, certain K-netz immediately criticized her and left comments:

  • “Even if someone said negative comments & she’s upset, dancing like that is too much. I think you need to accept feedback and not take it too seriously.”
  • “Already? Has she become Jennie-fied?”

Others went so far as to suggest that she deliberately did it in order to elicit sympathy from others.

  • “But she seems too smart… She used to have a lot of hate comments from fans because of over-dancing alone, and from the next stage onwards, she continued to dance like this with a sad expression. I wonder if she does that on purpose to get some sympathy.”

In response to these comments, Ahyeon’s supporters and other internet users fought back against the haters and malicious commenters by sharing the full video. In the video, the rookie was seen giving her all and dancing with full energy.

Indeed, she was actively energizing the audience and out of all the members, Ahyeon received the loudest cheers and screams.

Ahyeon’s fans also stood up against those who labeled her as a “lazy”dancer, despite her being praised for her charismatic and energetic performances since her debut. Fans suggested that these criticisms were not constructive and seemed to stem from a desire to simply criticize and hate Ahyeon.

  • “You discouraged a hardworking person first and now you are complaining that she’s slacking off?”
  • “Just go and watch the full-stage video. The live performance was so good that I didn’t even see anything like that.”
  • “Isn’t that the only part that’s like that? I saw the shorts, and they sang the song without skipping a beat, and at other times, they danced diligently and properly.”
