‘BABYMONSTER’s ‘Rival’? BADVILLAIN’s Concept Draws Comparison With YG Group

Is BABYMONSTER’s “rival”now emerging as a result of the attention gained by BPM’s rookie girl group BADVILLAIN for their unique concept and song?

On June 3, Big Planet Made Entertainment (BPM) debuted a new group called BADVILLAIN, which is the sister group of VIVIZ. BADVILLAIN released their first single album, “OVERSTEP,”featuring the lead track of the same name and two b-sides, “+82″and “Badtitude.”

When the MV was released on its official YouTube channel, the team quickly gained immense popularity, reaching 10 million views in just 17 hours. This made them the fastest girl group to debut with such views among fifth-generation acts in 2024.

Despite coming from a small/medium-sized label, this is still a monumental achievement for the rookie group.

Nevertheless, it appeared that the views were not solely from devoted fans, as even BABYMONSTER supporters were closely monitoring the group.

Before BADVILLAIN made their debut, the YG group’s fandom accused them of copying BAEMON. This accusation came after fans noticed striking similarities between the two acts’ outfits, teasers, backgrounds, use of song samples, logo styles, and more.

Upon the release of their debut song’s music video, fans of BABYMONSTER were quick to notice the similarities between it and BPM’s girl group, leading to theories and accusations of plagiarism being shared on social media platforms such as TikTok and X.

Despite suspicions, loyal followers of BADVILLAIN denied the accusations and ridiculed BAEMON’s supporters for criticizing the group’s music quality, particularly their song “Sheesh.”They pointed out that BPM’s group had a superior tracklist, taunting them with the notion that this was the type of song they had hoped BAEMON would release, but did not.

The evidence provided by BADVILLAIN’s fans further supported the team’s claim that they did not copy BAEMON.

In the meantime, BAD VILLAIN is made up of seven members, including Emma from Mnet’s “Street Woman Fighter,”Chloe Young from 1Million dance crew, HU’E and YunSeo, who gained recognition through their appearances on MBC’s “My Teenage Girl.”The group also features “secret weapons”INA, Vin, and Kelly.

The group gained increased recognition due to the fact that MC Mong, a seasoned singer and producer, was the one who formed the group under his name for the first time since his debut in 1998.

“The track “BADVILLAIN”is an impressive piece with addicting hooks and confident rap verses that fearlessly convey the group’s goals. Additionally, the music video boldly showcases the members’ identities, garnering attention from viewers.”

They also alluded to their perspective on life, which involves breaking free from any constraints on their freedom and embracing a “villainous”identity. This identity allows them to rebel against societal norms and create their own world.
