Bad Monkey Season 1 Finale Explained: Preparing for Season 2

Bad Monkey is a comedy-thriller featuring Vince Vaughn in the role of a retired police detective delving into crime and corruption in The Bahamas. This article explores the plotline and highlights hints for a possible Season 2.

In Bad Monkey, Vince Vaughn stars as Andrew Yancy, a former law enforcement officer turned restaurant inspector. His quiet life is disrupted when his ex-partner Rogelio Burton (John Ortiz) brings a perplexing case to his attention.

Inspired by Carl Hiaasen’s 2013 novel of the same title, the series offers a complex narrative filled with twists, set in both the Bahamas and the Florida Keys, as Yancy strives to dismantle the operations of corrupt businessman Christopher (Rob Delaney) and his seductive partner Eve (Meredith Hagner).

Throughout its 10 episodes, the series escalates to a climactic, death-heavy finale, cleverly paving the way for a potential second season. Proceed with caution as SPOILERS follow…

The finale opens on a dark note when Eve pushes the Dragon Queen (Jodi Turner-Smith), causing her to fall onto a jagged tree branch, leading to her tragic demise while her spirit bids farewell to her family.

Following this, Christopher and Eve plot to escape with their remaining wealth to London. However, before they can leave, Eve violently pushes the severely injured Chris into the water, watching him drown.

Just as Yancy arrives to witness Eve’s escape, he bravely jumps into the water, grabbing onto a rope trailing from her boat.

Amidst his struggle, he hears advice from friends, including Neville, and echoes from earlier experiences, all reminding Yancy about his difficulty in letting go. Ultimately, for the first time, Yancy decides to release the rope, allowing Eve to drift away.

However, fate catches up with her; while standing on her lavish villa in Portugal, she chokes on a carrot and tragically falls to her death.

How Season 1 hints at Season 2

Most characters experience a positive conclusion, pairing off and seemingly living happily ever after. Neville, in particular, finds love with Dawnie, secures funds for a new home, and even retrieves his beloved ‘Bad Monkey’.

Yancy, on the other hand, briefly reconnects with his girlfriend Rosa after a disagreement and shares an intimate moment, but Rosa ultimately decides to leave and explore her own path to happiness, promising to return someday.

As a result, Yancy finds himself where he began, gazing over the sea yet feeling solitary.

Unexpectedly, Rogelio arrives, mirroring his entrance at the show’s onset. They share a drink, and Rogelio suggests, “I’ve got something in my car. It’s not exactly police work, but I sense something unusual happened. Want to check it out?”

Yancy insists he has moved on, stating that “that chapter is closed.” Yet, after a moment’s hesitation, he finishes his drink and inquires, “What’s in the car, man?”

The two friends exchange smiles and rise, setting off together to investigate, initiating a new adventure. While there has been no confirmation of a Bad Monkey Season 2, the original material included a 2016 sequel titled ‘Razor Girl’, making it worthwhile to stay tuned.
